Summary

Reports to write, forms to fill, coffee to drink, leads to run down.

Gus’s life was a tedium and boredom he’d grown comfortable with. One that he sought out after he’d come back from his tour of duty.

A detective in the paranormal investigations department. A job he could work day in and day out in relative peace. One cold and forgotten cup of coffee at a time.

It was an environment that made some sense to him. At least in comparison to civilian life where almost nothing did. On top of that, it gave him a chance to hide what he was from the rest of the world.

An apex predator that made the entirety of the paranormal world fear him. His very species was often killed as soon as they were found out.

By government and citizen alike.

He’s a Boogieman.

A name that made humans laugh, and vampires curse. It was a strange life to be sure.

Now though, Gus’s stable non-life is about to be kicked over. Whether he likes it or not, he’s about to be handed a case that’s going to mess up his already screwed up life.

Awful, poorly structured soft porn

Hate it! Returning for credit back. Soo disappointed. I loved super sales series but this was just poorly written, Awkward soft porn. Straight from teenage wet dream. Paints all females as second rate fawning wet blankets.

Love it, but it's frustrating

First off, I have never read any of this authors works before. I absolutely adore the setting and some of the paranormal species are damn cool. The main cast of characters are all pretty great and development is plentiful. However. The "harem" element was grating at best. It doesn't add much to the overall story and feels very forced at times. If the writing wasn't as enjoyable as it was I would say the only reason for it is due to the authors lack of ability to create proper relationships (in a general sense, not specifically romantic in nature) but the characters interactions are enjoyable enough fir me to think that's definitely not the case. I cant help but feel like the element is born out of indecisiveness and ultimately just makes an otherwise brilliant story fall a bit flat. I loved what I've heard, as the narrator was pretty damn good. As with most narrators the ability to tolerate their portrayal of the opposite gender is usually down to preference. Her narrative and comedic timing were on point and overall it was a joy to listen to. I just feel as if the silly "Everyone has maybe yes maybe no implied interactions with one another" thing should be toned down. Either have relationships, monogamous or not, or don't have them. This grey area just makes it harder to want to pick up any sequel in the future as character development gets more and more stifled whilst the blurry likes between characters promises no foreseeable form of closure. All in all I will definitely be keeping an eye on this great author, but the silly harem element will prevent me from picking up another of their books as its frustrating and pointless in the grand scheme of things. Unless it isnt obvious by now, harem elements ain't for me, and thats definitely soured the experience.

Weak story and weird mannerisms from Andrea

I struggled with this book. The quality of the reading is high and the main characters premise is interesting. Personally the heavy accent given to the characters, the 'huh' and chuckle mannerism vastly reduces the immersion for me. I'd recommend you listen to the clip all the way through.

I don't know if Andrea was instructed to chuckle for the characters with a huh snort, but its awfull to me.

The story is also slow paced and has the typical Harem features of William's books. It feels forced and the dialog made me physically cringe. The universe is strong and premise good, however alot of the emotion falls flat.

5 stars all round

Wow. Slightly different direction for William D Arnold but it works so well.
The story is fantastic and as always Andrea Parsneau brings depth and life to each end every character. I honestly can't wait for more in the series.

Meet Gus, you’ll love him.

This book is beautifully written. It slowly teases you with little bits of back story, unveiling a little bit more of what drives each character through memory flash backs.
From the start, Gus and Vanessa and her introduction to the para world is engrossing. Add in a little bit of crazy from the contractor Melody, and the world is more than it seems to be.
Good and evil from a human perspective is not as clear cut as it should be. Living monsters and nightmares undertake the fight for good, to prevent the human and para world from mixing, no one wants another inquisition after all.
At the heart of it, love and friendship, brotherhood, and a heavy dose of denial, lust, and squaddie humour lead the way.
I laughed out loud, and was engrossed in a world where the boogie man, and a whole host of paranormal species usually seen as the monster can be the hero.

I would suggest that if you’re going to read / listen to these books that you google all books by this author and read them in order. There is so much that makes sense, only if you’ve read previous books. Characters that pop in and out are the stars (or at least feature more prevalently) of previous books. You’ll be fine without reading them as long as you’ve read the previous book in this series.

The excellent narration by Andrea Parsneau gives life and depth to the characters. I will pretty much listen to anything she narrates now, as I’ve never heard her do a bad book.

There's so much more.

Completely by accident I brought books from your other name and this one not realize your the same person. Remnant was the first ones I brought and I can't get enough, so far i brought 18 out of your 28 books. I like how you join them together while being set in completely different world's.
I like Andrea Parsneau she puts in a lot of emotion and effort to make these interesting characters come to life.

not what I was expecting. a late teens fantasy written around a great mystery and a wonderful writing style. a great story and book, dark and with meaning but playfully presents. certainly worth a look. a highlight of my audible listens this year.
