About this listen
The specter of the menacing Grand Admiral Thrawn looms over Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker as they embark on a journey to recover an important piece of Jedi history.
Sometimes it seems a Jedi’s work is never done, and Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker know this only too well. Despite the bond they share in the Force, the Jedi Master and his wife are still learning the ropes of being a couple after three years of marriage—and struggling to find time together between the constant demands of duty. But all that will change when they’re united on an unexpected mission: They must pool their exceptional skills to combat an insidious enemy and salvage a part of Jedi history.
Whatever may await, the Skywalkers will not face it alone. Joining them on the strange and solemn journey are an officer of the post-Palpatine Empire escorted by a detachment of Imperial stormtroopers; a party of diplomats from a gentle alien species that reveres the fallen Jedi for saving them from bloodthirsty conquerors; and a New Republic ambassador who harbors his own mysterious agenda.
Soon enough, suspicion, secrecy, and an unknown saboteur run rampant aboard the isolated ship. But the gravest danger lies within the derelict walls of Outbound Flight, buried for half a century on a desolate planetoid. As the marooned hulk yields up stunning revelations and unexpected terrors to its visitors, Luke and Mara find all that they stand for—and their very existence—brutally challenged. The ultimate test will be surviving the deathtrap carefully laid by foes who are legendary for their ruthlessness, and determined to complete the job Thrawn began: exterminating the Jedi.

Great narration that only lifts another good Star Wars story from Timothy Zahn higher.
Timothy Zahn provides a sound continuation to the original Star Wars stories that as a fan, I’m personally very happy with. I’ve previously read negative critiques of the narrator but as a regular audible listener my opinion is that they’re first class. Another good show.

includes an extra novella 'Fools Bargain'
As titled, this one includes a mini-story called Fools Bargain and gives you an extra 1hr30 backstory for a side character in the main story. It plays at the end of the main audiobook without the context it's set before it - a confusing decision. It's decent and the extra time is very nice but ultimately inconsequential.
Anyway, this is another fantastic performance from Marc Thompson. Maybe only one alien voice that grates your ears, but the rest are great. 5 stars there.
And a very intriguing and mysterious story by Timothy Zahn. Some parts felt a bit naff and I wasnt satisfied with the ending. But for the majority of the audiobook, the writing left me eager to find out what happens next or gave me goosebumps and the action parts are solid. 4 stars here.
Overall production 5 stars.
SW audiobooks tend to be accompanied by movie music and sound effects and it elevates everything. The length was perfect too.
Altogether another great Legends story that was so well executed, I could vividly imagine directing this as a great movie or series (after tightening up the end).

Read if you want a way to fall asleep easily
Frankly one of the most boring, uninspired Star Wars novels on the market, and verification to me that Disney still lacks solid content in this day and age. Rehashing Legends material in 2023 to create non-canon novels feels like a cheap shot at true Star Wars fans by Disney for a start; bread crumbs. I hoped to enjoy escaping to this novel and eagerly awaited its release, only to find I couldn’t care less about the final 2 hours of the audiobook. Mentally checked out somewhere around halfway. Disappointing story, bizarre voiceover choices for characters such as Mara and the alien who sounds like Vladimir Putin.
