Unexpectedly Enthralling

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up this book. New authors to me, a narrator I haven’t heard before, and a genre I don’t usually pick (mystery). I’m so glad I took a chance on this one!

Tristan is an art student who loves architecture. He’s obsessed with the Triangle Building where he often hangs out just to sketch it. That image is very vivid to me, and although it was on the cover of the ebook, I was a little disappointed it wasn’t on the cover of the audio book. All that being said, I have an image of New York’s flat iron triangle building and that style has always intrigued me. Does so for Tristan as well. Only one day, as he’s reviewing his sketch, he realizes he’s sketched a face in one of the windows.

Believing the building to be abandoned, he’s quite surprised. The curiosity gets the better of him and he figures out how to break in. Now, I never condone illegal behavior, but of course I was curious what he’d find. An OCD agoraphobic who hasn’t left the building for a very long time. Tristan slowly gets to know the man, returning again and again. Although he nicknames the man Eggbert, he does eventually find out his name.

And as they grow closer, this odd pair, they begin exploring the building, discovering all her secrets. And she has some doozies.

This book ends on a mini-cliffhanger – there is way more to come. Rest assured, I’ll be snatching up the next book. I want to see what’s hiding in the building, I want to watch the budding relationship between the two men, and I want to know if Eggbert will ever overcome his psychological issues. I’m rooting for him. That Tristan is so understanding speaks volumes, and I like where this is going – but I suspect there’ll be a few bumps along the way.

A quick word about William Pierre. New to me, but really enjoyable. He very much suited the narration of the college student. Can’t wait for the next one.

Great romance and mystery

If you are a fan of insta love romances and are looking for that here, this is definitely not the book for you at this time. It is apparently going to take the full three book series for our two main characters to get their HEA. That won't bother me in the least, however, if the authors can keep writing such an interesting historical mystery combined with the attraction building between Tristan and Brandon. The architectural details are intriguing and the documents detailing the past love tied in nicely with the current story. William Pierre is a new narrator for me and he was amazing here. His voice made me want to listen to more and all the characters came fully to life. I hope we get the rest of this series in both ebook and audio soon with Pierre as the narrator/performer.

A mystery!

I discovered Tag Gregory and Lily Marie books last year so I was curious about this book and decided to hear it. I enjoyed the book so much because the wonderful characters with some quirks well managed by the authors, a captivating mystery and a slow burn romance. I am not a fan of cliffhangers, but this one was discrete and with little angst, so I got hooked with the series and now I am looking to read book 2. The narration was interesting, with a great performance of Mr Pierre, very enjoyable because his nice voice and acting. An amazing audiobook!

Good, but slow, start

This was a good listen. The story itself is a slow start to whatever is to come and doesn't off a clear resolution. Not sure if I’ll continue the series or not; maybe ill wait until it's finished in audible. There were a few kinks in the overall production, but they can be overlooked. The narrator was decent - I did speed up a little. Overall, a good story that I expect will only get better as the audios are released.

Intriguing start

This is an intriguing start to what I hope will be a fascinating historical mystery. We don't get much into the mystery in this first book. This one is more about the characters and their description and development. The slow pace of the relationship and therefore the story made it more realistic, considering the mystery man's agoraphobia and OCD. It was still interesting, and I couldn't help celebrating every little step Tristan got him to make. This is not a standalone read or listen because it doesn't have a conclusion. There is no big cliffhanger, either. It just ends, and I assume it will pick back up in book 2, based on the sample chapter at the end of this book.

The narration is pretty good. There was some loud background noise occasionally, but it wasn't too distracting. The narrator's tone and pacing perfectly suited the story and characters.

I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

A mystery that needs to be solved but not yet.

A mystery that needs to be solved but not yet

An art student is fascinated with a triangular historic building, but there seems to a someone living in the building, but it's derelict. Who could be living there?

It's a good story, which develops as the art student and the recluse starts researching the past and history of the building. However, you don't get a happy ending. In fact, you don't get an ending. It's a to be continued series.

In some places within the audio, there was a lot of interference noise which could be off-putting, but during the main narration, it was very clear. This is one of the few narrators that I had to hardly speed up. Listened at 1.10 speed on audible.

Interesting story

This story had plenty of interesting elements to it, and likable characters. I found the type of house very fascinating. The story moved at a decent pace, flowing easily. I enjoyed that, despite having romantic elements, it wasn’t the center of the story.

This was the first time I’ve heard anything by this narrator. While I see potential, there is room for improvement of sound quality. His voice was fine, it was the other stuff it picked up that wasn’t. I would be interested in listening to his work again, as well as read something else from the author.
