Summary

Reeling from her boyfriend's indiscretions at a party, Lacey Montgomery escapes into the throes of a torrential storm. Her car spins out of control and hurtles into the depths of an icy, black lake. She awakens in the arms of a handsome stranger, in a place she's never heard of - 34 years before she was born.

Bobby Reynolds is smitten the moment the storm-ravaged woman opens her eyes. Learning the truth about her origin does nothing to stop the passion taking root in his heart and leaves him torn between finding a way to return Lacey to her time and convincing her stay with him.

Will the couple be able to discover the key to a mysterious portal before time rips them apart? Or will their spirits wander forever through a ghost town buried beneath the lake?

Amazing Time Travel Romantic Suspense!

Title: Beneath the Lake

Genre: Time Travel Romantic Suspense
Standalone: yes
Part of a Series: book 1 of Lake Lanier Mysteries

5/5

While I like time travel romance I don't listen to a lot of them because I'm quite picky about them. However, I LOVED Beneath the Lake. I picked it up since I'm familiar with lake Lanier and I thought the premise was fun. Casi McLean is a new to me author and I'm glad I took a chance of her. While I figured out some of the mystery I didn't figure out everything, which makes a great mystery to me. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Beneath the Lake

The Story:

Time travel books can be a hit or a miss and can sometimes get messy, but Beneath The Lake was neither, it did get a little confusing all the jumping of timelines but each jump was highlighted with either 2011, 2012 or 1949. and there was a lot of jumping! We start off with Lacey Montgomery finding her boyfriend with another woman causing her to rush away from the party in the middle of a storm that see’s her car spin out of control and hurtles into the depths of an icy, black lake.

This is where she find herself in the arms of one Bobby Reynolds. There was an insta-connection between them but he was very gentlemanly, and with good reason, it turns out the storm that Lacy got caught up in when she hit the lake was a time slip and she ended up back in 1949! Lacy spends a few years in the past trying to figure out how to get back which has a knock on effect on her life in the future. This is where it can get confusing and messy, she went back in time fell in love found out how to get back to her time yet she spent year in the past but was a comma in the future for a short time.

I really enjoyed the story much better then I thought -I have not read much time travel to be honest but that is the main thing that drew me to this series. Casi McLean did a great job of pulling you into the past and the present and I can’t wait for book 2!

The Narration:

Aundrea Mitchell did a great job of bringing this story to life, though at some points her characters lost their identity and sometimes sounded the same, despite this when she was switching charterers it was smooth and she did make the story engaging. The production was crisp and clear with no long pauses, background noise or static.

Intriguing time travel romance

I enjoyed this story, although at times it was a little confusing, as the time-lines and characters shifted. I thought the characters were extremely well drawn, and although it took me a little while to work it out myself, the revelations at the end confirmed what I had been suspecting although there had been some good red herrings along the way. This doesn't mean that the plot was in any way predictable, that was certainly not the case, there were some excellent twists and turns, but it was fun trying to work out the relationship between some of the various characters. Altogether an original and enjoyable story. I wasn't as impressed by the narration - it might be the accent (I'm in the U.K.) but I found the emphasis on some words seemed out of sync, and it drew me out of the story a bit, although I did like her portrayal of the main characters.

Well worth a listen!
