Ben was wounded in the heat of battle, now considered by society to be just another injured veteran werewolf. He’s loved, lost, and decided it isn’t worth the trouble. In a world where shifters die just because of the blood in their veins, what’s the point in committing? You just risk losing yourself. James is a kept omega, hidden away by his family until his breeding date. Soft and supple, James knows his intended mate-to-be will probably break him all to pieces. There are two things in this world I know to be true: I have terrible taste in men, and all alphas are jerks. You’d think my own pack kicking me out would’ve been a clue to stay away from alphas. Omegas are rare. We’re smaller, weaker, can’t usually get pregnant...all valid reasons for disowning your own family, right? But it only took one night for stupidly handsome Troy Miyu to make me forget all the reasons I should’ve known better. One night to start falling for him, to realize it wasn’t just amazing chemistry we shared, but a true mate bond.

OWEN - I learned early on to keep my expectations low. Somehow, I keep ending up disappointed anyway. Like now: I finally have an alpha, and I bet I could take him in a fight. I’m no expert, but I don’t think that’s how that’s supposed to work. Everything seemed good at first. Or as much as it was ever going to be, auctioned off to a strange alpha so I could pop out their litter. But hey, in this time of mysteriously low birth rates, we fertile omegas are a prized commodity - emphasis on the commodity. (No, I’m not bitter. Why do you ask?)

Everyone has that special someone - their first love. The memory of that person who brings butterflies to your stomach and a smile to your lips. My first love was Owen Moore. He was my best friend's older brother - a broad, strapping alpha who never failed to make me feel safe. I spent most of my childhood at the Moore's house, their open warmth a welcome relief from the cold reception my own parents gave me. Owen never looked twice at me then. Now, I'm back in Blackwater, teaching at the local school. Owen's in Blackwater, too, protecting and serving as part of the police force.

Summary
TYLER
I knew being an omega would get me fired one day, I just never thought hiding it would be the excuse they needed. Irony, you suck.
For years I was their best employee, right up until their new alpha hire smelled me in heat. I could’ve kept my job by playing his game, but I’ve spent my whole life running from my biology. I have principles.
I also have bills. Which is the only reason my desperate search for a roommate ended with a grizzled alpha veteran, Stefan. Brooding and damaged from years of battle.
My biology and I are not on speaking terms now.
But who needs words when you live inches from an alpha who looks like that? I was just kidding myself, pretending it wasn’t inevitable, our wild night of passion that ended with me pregnant and freaking out. And kicking him out. Look, mistakes were made.
Now I’ve got a new job with tons of stress, a baby on the way and a wannabe mate who doesn’t know he’s gonna be a dad. All because I’m paranoid he’s gonna take the baby and leave me. The way everyone else has.
Maybe its why I don’t listen when he tells me my new job is shady. Why I’m so eager to prove him wrong. To prove myself right.
Except I hardly ever am…
STEFAN
I was the best of the best, and now I’m nothing at all. A broken alpha who can’t even get his omega roommate to look at him with need. Desire. Hunger.
I don’t know why I thought things would be different with Tyler, but I did. There was an undercurrent to the way he avoided me in the mornings. A tension when he said he didn’t need or want an alpha. Want me.
Or so I thought, but one frantic, amazing night together and it’s like he can’t even stand to look at me now. I try and keep my distance. Give him what he wants, even if that’s not me.
But something about his new job pings all my alarms. Instincts that’ve kept me alive all these years. I wish his work was everything he wants it to be, but deep down I know better.
I just don’t know how to convince him before it’s too late…

I'm a bit torn...
So here it is, I liked the premise of the story. Omega wants to be independent of his alpha; got it. Alpha doesn't actually want to control his mate; got it. Lots of misunderstandings commence; cant have insta-love all the time. A little danger is good for everyone; got it. I think I stumble a little with the narrator. There were some mispronouncing of words which happens, not a negative there. I just feel that maybe a different person would have been a better choice....I could be alone in this and it is only my opinion. He did a good job just I believe he may be better suited for a different genre, maybe???

enjoyed it
• Did the story keep me engaged: The beginning didn't grab me, and only that it's not in me to not finish an audio I would have given it up - that being said i'm glad I didn't because it did keep my attention once I got through the first few chapters.
• Were there any parts I found annoying: there were a couple of mispronunciation's that made sentences a bit weird.
• Did I feel an emotional connection to the characters: eventually - yes
• Would I listen to it again: there are others I would listen to before it, but I wouldn't not listen to it again.
• Story comments: Interesting characters and a good pace once I got into it. It was nice to see the birth of the baby not be the end of the story as is quite often the case in this genre. There are also a few questions that make me wonder if there is more to come from these characters.
On an unrelated story note (for me), given it's called "Christmas Heat" , I was expecting more of a Christmas themed type story. Christmas just happened to be the time of year that the Act 3 'big drama' happened. - so not really "Christmassy"
• Narrator comments: Max Tone did a reasonable job of the narration, It did feel a little flat in some places and I lost track of who was speaking but overall he added to the audio experience.
• I'm becoming more familiar with narrators giving distinct voices to each character, this book isn't that type of narration.

I loved this opposites attract love story. Stefan and Tyler couldn't appear more different from each other. This Alpha and Omega must learn that they are exactly what the other needs. The journey they go on is full of angst, healing and finding love. I really enjoyed the depth and intrigue Max Tone added with his reading. I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook!

Good Book!
Tyler is an omega who has been living as a human for the last several years. But when a new Alpha at work outs him, after trying to force himself on him unsuccessfully, he needs a new job and a new roommate to keep his apartment. He never thought that roommate would be Stefan or that he would be his fated mate. After a wild night of heat infused sex, Tyler ends up pregnant but freaks out. When he calms down, is he too late to keep everything he had just thrown away with his Alpha? And is his new job really as good as it seems? Stefan is just paranoid, right?!?
This story was a fun read. Tyler and Stefan share a connection but they fight it for their own reasons at different times. But even while pretending to fight the attraction, they share intimate sweet moments. And when together, they share hot sexy times. The story is interesting with a military vet and an independent omega, keeping your attention.
I liked the virginal older alpha taking their first time as meaningful, don't see that often in books.
Oooh and the drama of the job situation. I totally saw Stephan's point about the job. I wanted to yell at Tyler and ask him why he was not connecting dots. Very exciting to watch play out.
The narration is done by Max Tone. A wonderful job bringing the story to the next level of enjoyment. The characters really shone through. Good job!

What a nice Holiday Story
This is a very nice Holiday story and the narration by Mr. Tone only adds more enjoyment to the over all pleasure of this book. I am looking forward to reading book two when it comes out. This was such a well thought out, researched, and developed book. The characters and the story lines flow effortlessly and I was taken from the first page till the last. I was very sorry to see the story end. An avid listener/reader in Rock Tavern, NY.

as good as the ebook
The story is always 4 or 5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.
The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.
PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!
To my ratings:
5* - very very good
it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A
3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.

A Rough and Gritty Romance
A good solid 4**** performance. Both the alpha and omega are mature adults. Life threw them both some curve balls that they are struggling with. The omega was fired for "coming on" to an alpha at work. The alpha was medically discharged from the military. Both need an affordable place to live.
Liam Kingsley didn't gloss over the baggage that both MCs brought with them in a new
living arrangement. He gave his characters the time they needed to develop.
Narrator Max Tone was easy to understand and portrayed the characters well. On a technical issue, it seemed that the last few paragraphs of a chapter were rushed, and there was no pause between the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one.
