Summary

"I’ve always been interested in women, so why can’t I stop thinking about Tyler?"–Gage

Buying a house was supposed to be a good investment. Too bad I bit off more than I can chew. Between my job at the bank and my utter lack of home improvement skills, I’m in way over my head. Then a friend suggests I hire a handyman. Enter Tyler.

Tyler is down on his luck after a recent divorce, and we strike a deal that he fixes my house while I give him room and board as part of his pay. He’s the perfect roommate, amazing at his job, and he quickly becomes one of my closest friends. But there’s something there, something I’ve never felt for another man before.

Tyler and I both thought we were straight, but that doesn’t stop the attraction that grows between us. Is it possible I found the person who could finally show me what love is?

Straight Battle is double bi-awakening, opposites attract, hurt/comfort story featuring a former soldier with trust issues, a divorced handyman looking for a connection, a found family, and accidental feels. It is book one in the Heroes at Home series, but can be listened to as a standalone.

A little repetitive

While I enjoyed both characters journeys the situational writing was some what repetitive, but a fun book regardless.

Series about former military finding love

A recently divorced unemployed handyman moves into a former-military banker’s old house to repair/restore it. They become best friends and even though both identify as straight, they become more than friends.

This was low angst and cute. This series, about military veterans in their 30’s, is an autobuy for me; I just preordered the next book. This author is new to me. I loved both narrators.

Love it!

This a great story of discover, communication, and dedication. I haven't had a story catch my feels and hang on to them from start to finish in a long time. Great character building, and backgrounds. I'm looking forward to more in this series.

Great story

Loved this book. the writing is so good. the narrating is also very good. I'm not a huge John Solo fan but, he did a good job here. J.F. Harding I would gladly listen to him read just about anything. together they brought this story and its characters to life. can't wait to hear the next in the series. really a great story.

I didn't really enjoy this one

The issue I had with this was the lack of heat and tension. It was more simplistic than I like. It was just a chronological order of events, but lacked depth that I look for in a story, unfortunately.

really good

I tend to love anything narrated by John Solo, but this dual narrated book was so good. The story was well written. So dang good.

Slice of life

This book is a no angst sweet ride through self discovery and acceptance for two men entering the second phase of their adult life. They both have baggage but quickly learned that the best way to get through this is together. That includes a 38 year old overqualified down on us and a 32-year-old veteran in need of a purpose then please please listen to this. As someone who usually prefers more action and or dark themes I was in a position emotionally to just need comfort and this was perfect

Wonderful, Exciting, Sexy, Imaginative.

Wow, I loved this audio through and through, I loved the voices of both Harding and Solo. I never been in any lesbian relationships, nor do I want, to, I just love the sexy voices of two men characters depicted in this audible novel. The author of this story can surely write her butt of. Thanks for an excellent story. I just like how it makes me feel when I see what the characters are saying through their words. Let's just say it's a natural lubricating experience.

Bland, unrealistic, and John Solo narrates half the story

My mind wandered so much during this nothingburger of a book. It flies under the radar of formula, most formula stories offer some tension. When our guys finally express their mutual interest in each other, they can’t stop talking about how this doesn’t make sense because they’re straight. Ok. Let’s see. One can’t form lasting relationships with women, the other can’t keep a woman. Hmm. Also, one only has gay friends. Hmm.

The narration is another issue entirely. Often, a narrator can save or slay a book. In this case, both happened. I only listened to this book because of JF Harding. I’m familiar with Solo from the Kiera Andrew’s Amish trilogy. There is a sing song quality to Solo’s reading that after awhile is grating. It was very present in this book. It’s unfortunate as Solo has a listenable voice.

This book is part of a series, if this title doesn’t make you roll your eyes, get the next one. I will be skipping the rest.
