About this listen

There is a great disturbance in the Force. From the sleek ships of the glimmering Coruscant skyscape to the lush gardens of pastoral Naboo, dissent is roiling. The Republic is failing, even under the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, elected 10 years earlier to save the crumbling government. Separatists threaten war, and the Senate is hopelessly divided, unable to determine whether to raise an army for battle or keep the fragile peace. It is a stalemate that once broken, could lead to galactic chaos.©2002 Lucasfilm LTD. and TM. (P)2002 Lucasfilm LTD. and TM. Adventure Movie, TV & Video Game Tie-Ins Space Opera

Greeeaaaaaaaaaat

This was the first Star Wars audiobook I had ever listening to... And for that I am glad.
With the indept story you can finally understand the bits that was missing from the movie, and with the extra sound effects on offer. You are basically feel like you are listening to a complete radio play with nothing missed out!!!
Also it is probably the one Star Wars production when you don't have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy it.

Honest I lent it to my mother... who is not hot on the saga, but even she said it. The whole production of story, narrator and sound effects, was pretty good, and sucks you in.

More in-depth characters

The best thing is definitely that we get to hear more about Shmi Skywalker. The next is that Dooku gets more mentions before introduced as a villain at the second half of the story. The story feels a bit poorly knitted together at times, but the experience is quite a lot of fun and opens up the much needed elements that even I as a prequel fan do wish were present in the movies.

Excellently performed, excellently written.

I think that I wanted too much from this book. One reads, or listens to, a prose adaption of a film to get a deeper understanding of the story, the characters and the world which they inhabit. And one does some of that here, mostly about the thoughts and feelings of Jango and Bobba Fett, and some deleted scenes from the film feature here. But mostly one gets a very well written and excellently performed account of what in the film. Like I said, I think that I wanted too much.

It's still an excellent listen.

Better than the film!

This book is definitely a step up from the film, the characters motivations are more justified and Jonathan does a surprising job at giving each character a distinct voice with good delivery of the dialogue which may have sounded silly in the film.

If the film was disappointing for you, this should make up for it!

What A Difference A Book Makes!

In a word, AMAZING!! Thoroughly enjoyable, from start to finish. You're listening for an hour, before you even get to where the movie begins, this should give you some idea of the depth of the storyline.

The writing is excellent, and the narration adds to it immeasurably. Drama, excitement, and edge-of-your-seat action, right from the outset........superb stuff!

I'm eagerly anticipating 'Episode III' now, if it's anywhere near as good as this, I'm in for a treat :-D

A great book, and a definite 'must' for your collection.

good expansion to the movie

it was an enjoyable book, and I liked the way it expanded on a lot of the scenes in the film especially the relationship between padme and anakin it fleshes it out and makes a lot more sense

a little disappointed

Unfortunately the writers have merely taken the film script and ordered it for a book. There is little in the way of character insight and descriptions are unimaginative and lack flair IMO. Should I have been surprised at this? Perhaps licencing got in the way. I enjoyed the films and was hoping for more from this book. I did enjoy the performance and sound effects which may have been there to make sure the film itself was bought to mind to make the lack of descriptions less obvious.

I think only an hardened Star Wars fan will truly like this book.

Use the other audiobook

Chapters don't sync which really messes with my OCD. The narrator does a pretty good job, his later star wars work is much better, can tell this is one of the first he did with the characters.
