About this listen
Half the Glasgow polis think DI Alison McCoist is bent. The other half just think she's a f--k-up.
No one thinks very much at all about carwash employee Davey Burnet, until one day he takes the wrong customer's motor for a ride.
One kidnapping later, he and the carwash are officially part of Glasgow's criminal underworld, working for a psychopath who enjoys playing games like "Keep Yer Kneecaps" with any poor bastard who crosses him.
Can Davey escape from the gang's clutches with his kneecaps and life intact? Perhaps this polis Ally McCoist who keeps nosing around the carwash could help. That's if she doesn't get herself killed first.

oh those fabulous plot twists
It's a funny book, with tons of (cartoonish) violence, but it's also a book about being human and how one stupid decision can ruin your life (and that of innocent bystanders).
So many great characters.

Unique, brilliant from thr first page
One of the best books I've ever listened to. Embarrassed myself many times by laughing out loud while listening on the school run, but worth every funny look. Absolutely inspired, loved it.

Mostly a good yarn
Lots that’s great. Some that’s not so. Mostly a good yarn but over long perhaps for the story to sustain. I began to wonder towards the end how the story had begun. What happened about the two characters murdered at the start of the story, or was that another book? I still don’t know, That’s not good. A bit of editing might help. But overall fairly brilliant. I expect that things can only get better, and better. Looking forward to reading more.

Cracking listen.
For a debut novel this is terrific. Thoroughly enjoyed the realism of the situation the two main characters were dealing with. Would be happy if Callum follows up this with another few books about McCoist.

A great start!
I loved the authentic Glasgow voices, a lot of narration I have heard from others tends to use the accent but not the vocabularly of the city. Also loved the clever storyline which certainly set up the idea of more appearances of the newly promoted detective. Some loose ends were not tied up, better left to the readers imagination.
The only downside for me was the graphic descriptions of extreme violence, sometimes on 'innocents'. I fast forwarded past those bits! Oh, and some chapters which really added nothing to the narrative.
Overall, an interesting book which held my attention,

A new favourite.
Just loved this. To hear something in the Scot’s tongue was refreshing. Great story line. Couldn’t figure out how it would end which is always a plus. Give it a go.

Brutal at times but engaging.
Awesome narration and a story to match. Great listen if you like looking into the seedy world of the Scottish underworld. Powerful characters.

Robin Laing is a joy to listen to
Over all the story doesn’t really flow between the two main characters, I find listening to McCoists story dull. But then listening to Robin Laing narrate Davies story was amazing. So well at many different Scottish accents and really easy to listen to.
