Summary

Experience the paranormal like never before...

"The gateway is open."

These cryptic words wake college student Jess Ballard from a terrifying dream into an even more terrifying reality. Jess’ life has never been what anyone would call easy; doing damage control in the wake of your nomadic, alcoholic mother doesn't exactly make for a storybook childhood.

But now, her world has fallen apart just when it should be coming together: her mother gone—dead under mysterious circumstances; her life uprooted to stay with estranged relatives she’s never met; and there’s something odd about some of the people she’s been meeting at school: They’re dead.

Aided by Tia, her neurotic roommate, and Dr. David Pierce, a ghost-hunting professor, Jess must unravel the mystery behind her hauntings. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more danger shadows her every move. An ancient secret, long buried, is about to claw its way to the surface, and nothing can prepare Jess for one harrowing truth...her encounters with the world of the dead are only just beginning.

Spirit Legacy is the first installment in the thrilling paranormal series The World of the Gateway by E. E. Holmes.

Loved it

Loved the story but not too sure about the narrator. I cannot understand why they feel the need to put on the awful voices

Great book!

Great start to the trilogy, loved it. The accents could have been better, but the story was still enjoyable!

enjoyable

i enjoyed this and was a great concept...4 stars nearly 5. The ending dissapointed me though....terrible English accents...predictable....travel to England, for a school 'sassenach' did make me cringe. up and until then, it was a great story.

Very good series. start woth this book.

I listened to all of the Jess Ballard books, and I am reviewing them altogether.
Good: A great idea for a story. It could have been confusing but easy to follow and well written. Make sure you start with Spirit Legacy - I started The Gateway Tracker book one, which was the fourth book! The story kept me listening, and I liked the main character. The ending of the series was very good. The story references genuine groups and myths, but is unique.
Bad: A couple of the books had a different narrator who had a beautiful southern U.S. accent, which didn't suit the character's background, but at least she could do a cockney accent and a Scottish one. Most of the books were narrated by a terrible narrator. The voices of Sav and Fiona are offensive.
The character of Finn is just awful. He has no personality, is a stereotype, and says "properly" on repeat in the first few books. His character is made much worse by the terrible narration, and his accent doesn't match his coloquialisms.
One character is referred to as " Cat Tree Owner" by every character - for the record, nobody in England, Scotland, or Ireland would pronounce Catriona that way! Nor would an English man call a route a "rowt."
The story is good, but a couple of things were never explained, such as why nobody outside the Duropinan world wondered where cremated bodies went, or whether scouted grooms knew the truth.
The story was dragged out too long, and would have been better as six or seven books.
Having said that, on the whole, the book series is excellent, but the narrator is appalling
