Summary
What happens when an exorcist who spent a lifetime banishing ghosts gets murdered and becomes one?
When Jake Fletcher died, he discovered a horrible truth: the method he was using to send souls to the afterlife wasn’t sending them to a better place.... It was obliterating them.
To atone for his mortal sins, he becomes a spectral detective, a phantom PI who helps restless spirits depart the earthly plane by bringing their killers to justice.
His latest job is no open-and-shut case though. The ghost of a dead woman needs his help to pass on to the other side, but for that to happen, Jake will have to defeat a demon.
Does he have what it takes to send this killer back to hell, or is another soul about to be lost forever?
Mystery, scares, and the paranormal collide in this bizarre noir. Fans of Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files will love this pause-resisting detective story with a supernatural twist.

Silliest book I've ever read
I really liked the premise of a sceptic detective who dies, and then realises the paranormal is real after all, and becomes a ghost investigator.
The opening scenes set down by the canal were great - grabbed the reader for sure.
For me, that's where the positives ended. I found the story to get sillier and sillier, inconsistent in what ghosts can and can't "do".
I didn't warm to the main character at all - totally derivative and tedious (who actually says "Jesus H Christ" in the UK?) . He was a hackneyed 'jaded cynical cop who's seen it all' in the vaguely sexist 1970s style, but not in the nostalgic way. Bit of a yawn.
Maybe some unconstructed fellas who are looking for a holiday read might enjoy this more than I did. But ... it wasn't for me unfortunately.

Amazing!
I love this series, and somehow I ended up listening to the books out of order. This one is the best of the bunch. it's filled with Jake's trademark humor, action, and unforgettable characters. The mystery Jake is trying to solve is absorbing too, and you can't stop reading/listening as soon as you see what happened to the first victim.

Fanboy Fun
Well written and well read book. For the fanboy in me this really came across, in a positive way, as a cross between Jake Fletcher reading to be part Constantine and part Dead Man.
Seeing the irony in Jake Fletcher using the body of someone he was tormented by in life to do his earthly investigations in death was well spun. Character development was what was most surprising in a book this short, but the author managed to do it. Very engaging read and I highly recommend it.

Brilliant benchmark urban fantasy!
This story follows Jake Fletcher, or rather the ghost of Jake Fletcher, as he begins the arduous task of making amends for the wrong he unwittingly did while alive. In life, he was an exorcist who truly believed that he was doing a service for the spirits he exorcised. Sadly, it turns out that he was, in fact, obliterating them rather than helping them to find their proper place in the Great Hereafter. He fears that his final judgement will be quite unpleasant if he is unable to cancel out some of the red in his ledger and find a way into the good graces of the Man Upstairs. As a spectral detective, he feels he can make a positive contribution to the society of the living as well as to the spirits of people struggling with the effects of their untimely demise. His new profession puts him in contact with all manner of the Uncanny. Be prepared for action, danger, mystery, humor, surprises, and top shelf snarky repartee. I highly recommend this brilliant and entertaining story to all urban fantasy enthusiasts.
Highest marks to the narrator, as well. Mark Restuccia did an outstanding job of bringing the story to life and making each character distinct. He was the perfect choice for this wonderful story.
While I did purchase a copy of this book, I was provided with an audio copy by the authors and I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.

Awesome & Unique
This is one awesome and unique story in the Uncanny Kingdom. If you loved the Harry Dresden series you will love this urban fantasy. Jake Fletcher is an unusual PI as he is a ghost who is trying to earn points with the "Big Guy" for things he did in life as an exorcist (was unknowingly destroying their souls). This is excellently written and very funny in arears when Jake needs to take over a human body (his "Meat Suit") when he wants to interact with the living. His snarkiness is fantastic and some of his associates are a real hoot. This is a story that I highly recommend.
Mark Restuccia did an excellent job of narration. His voice brought Jake to life.
Received a free review copy and this is my voluntary and honest review.

A must-hear!!
This story is all kinds of macabre awesome on its own, but the talented narrator reeeeeally brought the Jake Fletcher character to life with his performance.
If you enjoy slightly off kilter and imaginative urban fantasy, and who doesnt, The Spectral Detective stories are what youve been awaiting. The gritty and moody voice of the narrator is just icing on the cake.
