Summary
From the award-winning author of the Dreamland series comes a new dark romantic fantasy about a young woman finding hope in her powers of destruction.
The Thief Kingdom is a place hidden within the world of Aadilor. Many whisper of its existence, but few have found this place, where magic and pleasure abound. There, the mysterious Thief King reigns supreme with the help of the Mousai, a trio of revered and feared sorceresses.
Larkyra Bassette may be the youngest of the Mousai, but when she sings her voice has the power to slay monsters. When it’s discovered the Duke of Lachlan is siphoning a poisonous drug from the Thief Kingdom and using it to abuse his tenants, Larkyra is offered her first solo mission to stop the duke. Eager to prove herself, Larkyra accepts by posing as the duke’s potential bride. But her plans grow complicated when she finds herself drawn to Lord Darius Mekenna, Lachlan’s rightful heir. Soon she suspects Darius has his own motivations for ridding Lachlan of the corrupt duke. Larkyra and Darius must learn to trust each other if there is to be any hope of saving the people of Lachlan - and themselves.
Welcome to the world of Aadilor, where lords and ladies can be murderers and thieves, and the most alluring notes are often the deadliest. Dare to listen?

Surprisingly pulls you in
I was first comprehensive when I first started listening as it took a while for the story to really kick in. Once the main events of the story and the background world building was complete I was captivated. I was pulled into the storh and the narrators really captured the elements I felt this book needed. Great overall.

It lacked depth
Such a short read yet took me forever to finish.
Female part of the narration missed a mark in my opinion. The actress pronounced everything with matter-of-factness, which just killed the vibe. Many dialogs could've been salvaged if read with more emotion.

One of the best
This has to be one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to. Narrators were good and the story itself was fantastic.

Amazing book but untrained narrators...
Love this book so much ! I read it several times, but the audiobook leaves a lot to desire... I have originally stopped listening to it as I was shocked by Madeline Lake's rendering of Darius-painful to listen- but the story is so beautiful that I forced myself to finish it. Nelson Hobbs is ok Such a pitty...

Won't download, can't return nor contact Audible
Won't download, can't return nor contact Audible as they have a high volume of calls. Ironically only Audible members can return a book if faulty. Otherwise I'm stuck. Wasted hours on th s product.

Fun NA fantasy romance
Very light on smut, for a majority of the book this feels closer to a YA romance than an adult one.
The magic world is fun, the characters get progressively wholesome and the romance is cute.
A fun listening experience.

Pleasantly surprised
I was very pleasantly surprised with this book. As it’s included with my Kindle Unlimited membership, I thought it wouldn’t be that good, but it is. I can’t wait for the second and third instalments!

couldn't finish
I got about 20 chapters in, fully emerged in the story, when I had to quit. The female narration is just too hard for me, personally. So monotone, so unaffected. I just couldn't finish.

Narrator has room to improve
The female narrator had too clear enunciation at times. Often her was tone overly formal.

Solid magic, flimsy romance
An entertaining and easy listen. I felt a lot of the ideas for the magic and fantasy were really fresh and fun. Loved the thief kingdom concept. I do want to note the similarities between this story and The Bridge Kingdom—a gorgeous blond spy infiltrating a stormy kingdom that ends up falling for the broken leader. I also found myself wishing some of the romantic interactions with the characters would just stop because they were so vanilla. So very boring and lacking any sort of heat. Mellow, turn up the heat, girl.
I look forward to the next book!

Great Story
This is the first audible I have finished! It’s creates a picture in your head and the female voice is great! The male performer is good as well, I just hate that when performers use their voice for for her characters it isn’t consistent and I had to think about which character is talking.

No, just no.
I’m confused as to whether or not this story is set in some magic realm, or in the deep south. This is terrible.

Good
I really thought this book was very interesting. The author was very creative when it came to this book. I did like all of the characters especially the two main ones. I did like how Darius first met lark. I also liked the hawk that lark had. I did like the narrators of this book they did a very good job. Sometimes it seemed like the female reader was a little too dramatic in some areas.

Good Story
Took me a few chapters in to get into this book. It was like dropping down in the middle of the book and trying to catch up. once I did, halfway in , I enjoyed the story.

DNF
I was bored and the narration did not help. I am very disappointed. Normally, this is my kind of read but I’ve chosen the wrong book this time.

good story, bad narration
I enjoyed this light romantasy story, but thank the Lost Gods that I can speed up the narration. I usually listen to things at x1.25 or x1.5 but even that was too slow for this narrator. I listened at x1.7 speed to feel like it matched my expectations. Normal speed was having me rolling my eyes and falling asleep.

Awful narrator, characters lack depth
Story was ok… lackluster. It could have been good and almost was. The characters lack depth or any real development. They are difficult to relate to. The author is all over the place trying to be dark and mysterious but doesn’t commit long enough to achieve that. The sisters are meant to be exceedingly witty but their quips aren’t even intelligent. The narrator reads this like a it’s a children’s story rather than dark fantasy which kills the story even more. I started the second book in the series hoping it would be better. It’s not.
