Decent end of the world

Its a decent end of the world book. Its not a heavy read but if you like the genre and want something different you could give this a try. The main characters are fun and it's a long journey. The book could have been shorter.

Tedious

Good job it was free with my membership! The story was tedious and plodded painfully slowly in place. I didn't feel invested in the characters, they were simply boring and unrealistic - I won't be listening to the follow on stories! I am sure the reader did her best!

Stilted, Unconvincing and Painful

Contrived drama and over the top conflict. Stupid unconvincing characters. Illogical story progression. Stiff and unnatural vocabulary. Ridiculous stilted dialogue.

Continued listening because I just couldn't believe how awful it is...

The narrator is decent though.

Unbelievable

I didn't like the two female characters at all, they had no substance the mother, Riley lurched from despair to overbearing and arrogant while her daughter was stupid, selfish and self serving. they weren't likeable characters and I don't know how Coop, the male character put up with them.. I couldn't finish the book as they irritated me so much, it was also so unbelievable that civilisation had broken down and another dictatorship happened in two weeks.

No. Just NO!

This is awful. It reads like the transcript of one of those generic chaos, disaster and aliens movies YouTube churns out ad infinitum.
Ho Hum.

Just Awful

There was way too much happening in this book and most of it just was not believable. These people have the worst luck, and met with disaster around just about every corner. The characters were not even true to themselves. The main character mentioned traveling with a bug out bag and that’s the last you hear of it in the story, it never made another appearance even when they actually needed to bug out. Also, the characters really got on my nerves, they never would have survived such an event. They’re just too stupid. I won’t bother with the next installment and don’t recommend this one. This author should scale back on the number of disasters and work on substance, you don’t want your readers rolling their eyes and saying ‘what now?” Every time something happens. The narration was pretty well done, but that’s not enough for this story to stand on.

Absolutely Terrible

This is a playback for what NOT to do in a grid down situation. The characters just make mistake after idiotic mistake until you can't stand it anymore and give up. I made it about halfway through only because the narration was good.

Repetitive and Predictable

After the 4th round of tragedy and triumph I was thinking to myself that either they are the dumbest and or luckiest people. So many times the same thing until it abruptly ends with a short resolve that tries to bait me into the next book. Sorry Audible this series is fine for the free collection but there is no way I am using credits or paying to hear what happens because I could probably write it myself. Next book: They take off to find her kids, they face tragedy and triumph 10 times or more, they make it to Colorado but there are problems there so they can't leave to return to get Julia until the 3rd book......and on and on the same pattern goes. Yeah the premace sounded amazing, but the delivery needed more character depth and less predictability.

Save your time skip this book

Wow! I don't know how this book has more than 1.5 Stars. There is zero chance this woman would be a Surgeon in real life. This is the most absurd nonsensical book I've listened to and I prefer apocalyptic books. Story line is not plausible. I won't be going on to book 2.

Same old woman is vulnerable line

I was interested to listen to this story but have no patience for the woman is weaker, isn’t she cute underlying the main theme. I tried but just couldn’t. That and the sappy oh we just met and now we’re so close theme.

too many errors

I cannot stand authors who write and use terms they know nothing about. slang used in this story is ridiculous at many points in the story, calling a Chinook (shi-nook) helicopter a 'chin-hook' is RIDICULOUS, saying 'binocs' vs 'binos', putting 'gas' into a HMMV would kill it as they only take diesel, claims 3 feet of snow fell overnight, and that 7 feet of snow fell in a week is unbelievable. Sure the event may have caused weather issues, but to claim Coop had to use a 'small shovel' to dig out after a few hours of being parked. At one point in the story, author says Ripley was driving and then refers that Coop is driving. Also, when they escape from the camp, they had to leave within 20 yards of the front gate, when no explanation was given on how Ripley got past the front gate coming to the escape point by the fence. The pacifist attitude the characters have of not heading to a gun store as a top 3 list of things to do, just demonstrates that the characters would uave been dead the first week; be realistic, defend yoursel! I just could not deal with it anymore, call me whatever you want, but I could not take it anymore. I do NOT recommend this for anyone with the basic attention to detail. I had so much hope, but by book 2, I am done!
