In Victory at Hawaii: America Defeats the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor, the decades-old question is explored—how could the US be so surprised and defeated on December 7, 1941 by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor? And how could, six months later in June 1942, the US Navy deal a crushing blow to the Japanese Fleet at the Battle of Midway? We all know that the US had intelligence indicating that the Japanese were going to attack at Midway Island. What if earlier in 1941, America had specific intelligence about the upcoming Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and acted on it?

Reassuring

Summary
"Giving up" alcohol might sound daunting...but what are you actually giving up when you're hungover on the sofa all day? Cutting out the booze can transform your life in unexpected ways.
We live in a culture that celebrates alcohol use as if it were somehow different from the drugs we place legal restrictions on.
We mark every occasion with alcohol, whether it's a good day, bad day, new job, old job, divorce, wedding, funeral, birthday, holiday and the list goes on and on…you can always guarantee that someone, somewhere, is getting drunk…and it's "normal" to get drunk right?
Alcohol is the one drug that if we have too much of it we are shamed for our behaviour, but if we decide not to drink, we are classed as boring. We live on a drunk planet.
Our love of alcohol is holding us back. Think about the last time you had a drink–even if you weren't conscious of a hangover, you probably felt some effects.
Perhaps your head was a bit cloudy, or you took longer to get going in the morning.
Perhaps you were tired and reaching for the snacks to keep you going at the end of the day.
Maybe you had hopes and dreams before alcohol became a regular occurrence.
Alcohol is expensive, and it has side effects that go far beyond just having a headache the next day.
Imagine the difference in your life if you were to take those side effects away and save the money to fund what you really want to do with your life–and there's a strong chance it involves something a whole lot more fulfilling than a glass of wine or bottle of beer.
Sober on a Drunk Planet: Giving Up Alcohol recognizes how difficult it is to break free of drinking culture and provides you with all the motivation you need to kickstart a new life.

Just SO relatable and honest
I listened to Seans story and advice with great attention.
I've never said this before as I'm not really into reading (or listening on Audible in this case) but i was literally gutted when i got the end.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Sean a few years back at a business event, we spoke briefly and I had no idea at the time what he was and had gone through (he had been sober approx a year or less I believe).
There were so many relatable stories and situations, BUT it was just how honestly it was told in plain english.
Well done mate, you should be so proud of not only what you have done but how you have and are helping others now.
Inc me.
Thats' very selfless and admirable.

For a specific audience
I applaud the author for the journey he’s been on and what he’s overcome. Unfortunately the book didn’t resonate with me because it’s specific to the author’s own set of circumstances - 20s-30s working/socialising/boozing/kid free. I’m a 40 year old mum of 2 reflecting on my drinking habits and I’ve read lots on health, mental well-being, soul searching and parenting help. I didn’t find any chapter really uncovered anything for me. People are complex and layered, and how alcohol is used and plays out is muddled, not black and white. This is really a memoir by the author, which is interesting in itself, and certainly helpful if you are in a similar situation.

Good book but more for consistently heavy drinkers
Lots of good points but a big assumption in the writing that you always binge, maybe do drugs, never get to the gym, always have fatty fast food. Less useful for the more moderate consumer considering their relationship with alcohol.

Brilliant Brilliant Book
I usually don't like to listen to a book that isn't read by the author but Piers the narrator does an excellent job of reading the book in a beautifully relaxed mannor.
Now onto the book itself, if you have ever had a hangover and vowed never again, read this book.
Sober on a Drunk Planet can help anyone who uses alcohol and is 'Sober curious'.
Its also a wonderful reminder to anyone who has been sober for a long time, why we chose sobriety and what a blessing it truly is. Congratulations Sean on an amazing book that I hope will help lots of people.

Love the approach of this audiobook!
I like the title, which caught my attention, and I wasn't wrong. The author finds an easy way to open your eyes regarding this delicate subject. It made me think and agree that we really live on a drunk planet. Why do we need to drink to be fun? Why people are taken as boring if choose to not drink? We need to break these cycles. Change this kind of behaviour. I really recommend this book if you are thinking about giving up alcohol and all the side effects that come together. Thank you.

I don't think people are aware of all the negative effects alcohol has in life. Some people are blinded by what society has labelled as normal, but Sean has crafted a gem of a book with an amazing approach to alcoholism that unveils this issue. I liked how he talks about all the areas of life alcohol affects and gives you practical advice on how to escape alcohol and stay sober. I wouldn't be a big drinker but I am contemplating giving it up this year as I think I'd prefer to enjoy social occasions without it. This book makes so much sense! I don't like being hungover and I'm starting to see how much better my life would look without it. It's definitely made giving up alcohol much more favourable in my eyes.
