Thank you so much

I have quitted alcohol for 4 months and have read both books on Alcohol explained without them I’m confident I would be back drinking
With lockdown I’m not sure if this is why I’m struggling so much,I have been drinking 45 years. I keep going back to the books when I fear I will be tempted and realise it is not worth it.
I worry when lockdown passes that I will drink on my holidays, but I will continue to read these 2 books for strength
I really recommend the books to all drinkers who realise they might have a alcohol related problem
Thank you William Porter

Day 5 of sobriety

Having read both the Alcohol Explained books this is the first time in 30 years I feel I may just be able to do sobriety! So excited I could cry!! Love these books. They explain what alcohol is and does and how my mind processes it’s effects in a practical way that makes sense. Tried other books and blogs even AA but finally I may just be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Only day 5 now but listening to this tolls book over and over to keep me on target. God bless you for taking time out of your life to help others by writing it x

super stuff. fine tunes ideas in AE1 and adds more

Same carefully thought through, clearly expressed and bulletproof arguments (there are so many), backed up with irrefutable experiential desriptions and proof (including reference to one scientific paper, although please don't let that put you off) as last time. After all human understanding of the impact poisons have only progresses so fast. However, this provides more granularisation and details about how to overcome practical difficulties in achieving/maintaining sobriety. I am biased because I am in it (as the anonymous dad in chapter 6), having met the author since reading AF1. But I believe it's really is as good as the first if not better. BOTH books do what it says on their covers.

Yep - it’s a game changer

Does exactly what it says on the tin. This and the first AE have changed my perspective on alcohol and crucially they have removed my desire to EVER DRINK AGAIN. Factual. To the point. Effective.
I read these books out of curiosity (wanting to gain control over alcohol) and emerged thinking “why would I actually ever drink again”. Two months sober and counting

Excellent material

This is an amazing follow-up to Alcohol Explained. You should listen to the first book before moving on to this one. Both are essential listening if you wish to free yourself of the alcohol trap easily, happily and permanently. William Porter is a very enlightened individual. I look forward to his future works.

Brilliant book just as good as alcohol explained 1

this book is a must for anyone who wishes to stop drinking . it goes in depth of how alcohol effects our brain and the nature of addiction. it offered lots of tools and advise on dealing with cravings, and how to alter your mindset towards alcohol. it's just as good as Williams other books alcohol explained 1 and diet and fitness explained I've got both on audible and are a brilliant listen

Best quit lit book I’ve listened to yet.

I’ve read quite a few books over the past couple of years and this one I’ve found the best yet.
Well worth a read/listen to if you’re interested in quitting the booze.
Thank you William Porter x

Worried about the lack of science

I have concerns that the author doesn’t properly cite research. He notes in the opening that readers are invited to Google the science. But that feels lazy and a disservice to the reader. He relies heavily on the science of the brain balancing the depressant effects of alcohol with stimulant chemicals. And he seems to extrapolate a great series of effects from that phenomenon. I will continue to listen but see the above as deeply concerning.

A must read!

EVERYONE and anyone who has ever questioned their health and the impact that drinking alcohol has on their well being needs to read both Alcohol Explained 1 and 2. The information contained in these books helped me get my health back on track. I had no idea just how badly drinking alcohol was affecting my digestion, inflammation, anxiety, weight, and my sleep. I am happily alcohol free and reaping huge benefits from it. Thank you, William Porter!

The Title Says It All!

This book was excellent, and offered many common sense strategies to quit alcohol. It explained so much about the way alcohol works and how it hijacks our brain! I will refer this book to many others who desperately need this. TR

Not Tools

I rated Mr Porter’s first book a 5. This book does not deliver on its promise. It doesn’t provide anything like a toolkit.
Mr Porter opens by explaining that he had lots more to say following the publication of his first book. This book feels like a rummage through his additional notes. His first book felt tightly organized around a purpose. This one does not.
I had hoped, when I finally got to the Tools chapters, that I would find some useful tools. What I found were more ruminations.
Example: Mr. Porter makes some brilliant points about the importance of self-image. But he fails to provide a set of tools for examining this. He largely shares his own experience and observations. This has some value, but it can get tedious.
I highly recommend Book 1. I would love to see the author come back with a complete rewrite of Book 2. I think that he has it in him. It just isn’t here.

I never thought it would be this easy

I was at the point of giving up that I would ever be able to control the alcohol I was drinking. I never imagined that the answer for me was so simple. This book really opened my eyes and I have completely changed my life with actually very little effort. It really can be that easy!

Very helpful

I’ve read/listened to a lot of “quit lit” since I stopped drinking. This is by far one of the best for me. I’m not a 12 step recovery person. If you’re not either, give this book a try.

TRUTH a will set you free!

After reading “Alcohol Explained” I totally quit three years ago, felt great, then went on a cruise and drank only a little bit… BUT TRULY RECOGNIZED that my body without poison feels… 500% better!! That I actually MUCH PREFER being “clear” and “energetic”! Health is energy! Oh my goodness, as soon as I had a few glasses of wine… my face changed! My eyelids drooped. I lost the “ truly feeling good”.
So now going on another cruise, without the “drink package” and will enjoy the excursions and fun to the fullest, feeling energetic. Interesting, is that on the last cruise I actually had the very best time dancing on the night that I did not drink.
Drinking alcohol is simply too dangerous to fool around with!
THIS BOOK IS A JEWEL! It has put into words what I knew in my heart to be true. It has given me a real solid stance for my beliefs. Absolutely brilliant book. I’m going to listen to it many times.
