Summary

Roger Reaves grew up a poor farm boy in Georgia and went from making 'moonshine' to becoming one of the most prolific smugglers of the 20th century. He covered six continents, transporting 20 ton ship loads of hash, tons of cocaine, and completed more than 100 sorties across the US border with plane loads of marijuana. His friends and associates spanned the globe - from Medellin Cartel kingpins Jorge Ochoa and Pablo Escobar, to "Mr. Nice" Howard Marks and the infamous Barry Seal who was Roger's close friend and employee. He escaped from prison on five separate occasions; was shot down in both Mexico and Colombia; and tortured almost to death in a Mexican prison. Despite it all, Roger still has a twinkle in his eye as he recounts his life story. And you have probably never heard of him...till now.

Excellent

While I do not condone what the author has done the story line is in my opinion excellent and the voice of the author is very good makes it more realistic

Amazing Life Story Told By a Natural Narrator

This is a personal account of someone on the wrong end of the absurd war on drugs. It highlights that the idea of good and bad is nuanced

The stories of adventure are riveting and the author has a natural talent for a good yarn.

I couldn't stop listening; an ideal book for audio format.

What a life

I first heard about Roger Reeves after listening to a podcast he did in England called Anything Goes. His story was just so captivating that I had to delve deeper and give his book a try. The fact that he narrates it himself, in his own wonderful accent, makes this long account of the man’s life all the more personal. The scrapes he got up to are legendary and by the end of it you genuinely consider how his wife hasn’t been canonised as a saint for what she had to put up with. Mari must be up there for Wife of the Century

This is not a book, it is a journey!

I think I've listened the majority of drug trafficking/smuggling books on audible and other stores over the last few years. I've read this book and the audio version. This is the cream of the crop undoubtedly! i actually think the audio book is better than reading it yourself because his voice is so sweet.

this amazing man made some poor decisions and was taken advantage of numerous times in his life. but even if you take away all his years behind bars, he will have lived a life for more exciting than most of us.

i follow him on whatever social media i can. hes still going strong at 80 years old! keep er lit roger.

Me, my Dog and Roger Reeves

I go out early with my beagle Alfie for long 10 mile walks, he’s getting on a bit now in years and our walks have gone from 15/12 miles to 10’s because he’s slowing down as we all are.
I found the Smuggler and Rogers real and friendly voice has kept me hooked on his life of action, drug smuggling and, massive high’s and cavernous depths. I’ve found myself out for hours and doing extra walks and extra miles to listen to what happens next.
Excellent narration from Roger himself , sad but Roger stay’s upbeat no matter what it seems.
Great story and good luck to Roger

listened twice it was that enthralling.

loved the whole book, nattaration and presentation. have reviewd it prior so will just add that one thing tucks in this game, some people won't walk off with a lucky million that they come across just by chance ,when others would steal a few dollars from the wages of very cheap labourers ,when those labourers are making those who stole from them $100000s.

Wow loved it.

I loved this book. It’s really long but kept my interest all the way. Loved Rogers voice who read it too.

Bit of a struggle.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the book though I feel at times it went places into a dead end. Nearly 25hrs is a very long listen and at times it really felt it. I ended up skipping quite a few of the earlier chapters as it was nothing more than time filler, I would've preferred this being half the length and I think it would be much better for it.

On the plus side, it's still a good listen and I actually liked the narration.
