Summary
When an Edinburgh car showroom is torched, leaving a charred body among the burnt-out luxury cars, Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner wonders if a life of crime has finally caught up with one of the city's most elusive villains. But the corpse turns out not to be that of Jackie Charles, the owner of the showroom, but his wife Carole.
Skinner now finds himself on the same side as his old enemy. However, Skinner's number one priority is a murder much closer to home. Ever since memories of his first wife Myra's death resurfaced under hypnosis, the question of how she really died has become an obsession which could threaten his career, his marriage and even his sanity.

QUITE LIKED THIS
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It's a good story and if you're listening late or night, the descriptions are factual rather than gory.
What did you like best about this story?
That I didn't guess who dunnit till the end.
What three words best describe James Bryce’s performance?
It was OK though it seemed difficult for him to have enough different characters voices.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really. It was dramatic but no tear jerk moments.
Any additional comments?
I had to smile at some of the female descriptions and treatment. None of them seemed to have a bad hair day or do anything but handle their day-to-day lives perfectly. Also skinner was in danger of becoming an old curmudgeon before his time!

omnipotent skinner!
Not sure if I actually like skinner much. in his role as DCC it's like he's omnipotent! he promotes people all over the place with no consult with anyone else at all . people whiz through the ranks seemingly from lowly DC to inspectors and beyond in record time on the whim of superman skinner? its like he plays chess with them all.moving people around to suit his latest whim/strategy/need. he's also blinkered to his own faults though he makes a big thing about his own integrity etc.. oh well...I'll persevere as I look for alternative series of similar ilk.

Dissapointing
What would have made Skinner's Mission better?
Less sterotypes
What could Quintin Jardine have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
To think Bob Skinner, this paragon of virtue would employ an assistant that he then starts to have a relationship with is ridiculous

The book was very well read, with clear characters, the actual story was also good, but the characters were so one dimensional and stereotypical that I had to struggle to listen to it.
