Story
From number one best seller Mark Billingham comes a twisting, unbearably gripping DI Tom Thorne and Nicola Tanner thriller inspired by a dramatic real-life case. How do you catch a killer who is yet to kill? We all know the signs. Cruelty, lack of empathy, the killing of animals. Now, pets on suburban London streets are being stalked by a shadow, and it could just be the start. DI Tom Thorne knows the psychological profile of such offenders all too well.

The tempo kept getting stuck. Begins with a bang but ..... It dragged me to the end which I should say does have a final final endearing twist but much of the action seemed laboured in getting there.

I am glad this wasn’t the first Tom Bale book I came across
As the heading says, I really am glad this wasn’t my first Tom Bale book. If it had of been, I can honestly say, I would have missed out on his other great books like Terrors Reach and Blood Falls. Those books were outstanding.
This story is not great. It does get better towards the end but the narration left me cold. I kept drifting off and losing the plot line. Having said this, it is only my personal preference. I like narrators like Paul Thornley and Armand Schultz.
If this is your first Tom Bale experience, give the other titles a listen. You will be pleasantly surprised.

HARD TO GET INTO PLOT
After a good start to the plot, storyline slowed down, but couldn't turn off. Once into the plot had to know the outcome. Not listened to any other books narrated by Gordon Griffin, so beside a new writer , a new narrated to adjust too. Not a book I would recommend to most of my acquaintances as some bits a bit gory at times.

Most annoying narration
I found the predictable, dull narration so distracting that I was unable to decide if the book might be well written. The main female character is definitely several sizes too naive and dumb for my taste. Somehow, the plot was apparently captivating enough to help me suffer through to the end. I can only hope that I will eventually be able to erase the narrator's repetitive sing song from my ear. Being a fluent reader surely cannot be the only requirement for an audiobook narrator?
