Summary

I never wanted a wife. No one is safe with me. No one is good enough for my daughter.

But if I want to rule over the wealthiest crime family in New York City, I only have two weeks to find one.

When Elsie broke into my home, I saw an opportunity, so I forced her into a marriage she didn't want.

No one crosses me, not even someone as beautiful as Elsie. She may fight me with that smart mouth, but she will obey me–or return to the hell she came from.

I told her she was mine for a year. Then she'd be free.

But the more I see them together, my daughter and my wife, the more she touches me like I'm worthy, the more I start to wonder, could she be mine?

But when war lands at our feet, when her life’s in jeopardy, I realize I was right all along.

No one is safe with a man like me. Least of all her.

Sinfully perfect

I was so engrossed listening to this story I lost a full day! Loved the storyline. It was a refreshing new story plot for mafia. The narrator’s done a perfect job and just elevated this story to the next level. They made you feel all the feels lol but also all the hurt and pain. This is a dark mafia romance - but not to dark that it goes into vivid details to much but enough to make it a dark romance. Check TW because I like my dark romance black.
Lilian Harris is a new to me author last week and I’m already 3 books in lol.
No one does possessive male characters like teddy so if this is your thing you NEED Michael in your life 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Perfection in every way

There is always that small nervousness when starting a new book. And when it's a book written by a new author, that nervousness increases tenfold.
Not because the author is a bad one, oh no, but because we might not like their writing.
But this was not the case.
One of the things that made me want to read this book was because it's a mafia book.
One of the genres that I freaking love so I took a chance and Dayum...
Lilian Harris is a new author to me and let me tell you, I will be reading more from her.
Her writing is raw, wild, dark and so intense that will leave you breathless and nervous at the same time.
Sinful Vows is her latest release and it's the first book from the Messina Crime Family series.
This book explores the lives of Elsie and Michael.
What started as a fun trip, ended up being a nightmare. Elsie was kidnapped, along with her friends.
Almost 10 years of torture and pain had passed and Elsie keeps wanting to escape along with her best friends.
When she's able to escape...
Michael needs one wife and fast. When he finds Elsie hidden in his house he makes her a proposition...
Boy oh boy... What a book. What a journey this was.
This book was perfect in every dark way.
Amazing plot, well written, super engaging, dark, and hopeful at some point.
Let's not sugarcoat this, life is hard, there's no question about that but when you live in constant fear, it's painful.
Loved the connection the main characters had with each other.
Loved their interactions and the hot stuff... Lord have mercy.
In the beginning, I wanted to slap Michael. I really did, because he infuriated me so freaking much.
Sweet Sophia was a joy. That little girl is super sweet and cute.
Loved every single chapter and was sad when the book ended
Now, I'm super curious to know Raph's story. We have so much to learn about him.
Lilian, oh lord, this book gutted me open and I cried for Elsie.
You nailed it and I can't wait for the next book.
I finished listening to the audiobook and Jesus, the story became even better.
The narrators came to give even more life to the story and the feelings it evoked in me were surreal.
I advise you to read the book first, and then listen to the audio. You won't regret it. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Enjoyable Mafia Book!

Sinful Vows was a fast-paced, well-written story that was enjoyable to listen to. Michael was a grumpy mafia hero but he was a big softie when it came to Elsie and his daughter Sophie. Elsie was a strong and determined heroine who had endured so much during her 9 years being held captive and Michael was just the sweetest with her fear, concern, and holding her through the rough times. Loved how she handled Michael and held her own even when she was scared. I adored her relationship with Sophie and I knew there would be no way they could part ways after their one year was up!

I would rate this a mild/medium dark listen- filled with suspense, emotion, and great world-building!

Narrated by Callie Dalton and Teddy Hamilton, they did a wonderful job with the characters and really were paired perfectly for this book!

Sinfully Steamy!

Sinful Vows by, book one in Lilian Harris’ Messina Crime Family series, narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Callie Dalton.

This was the read that first introduced me head-first into the amazing world of Lilian Harris and her writing. As a massive dark romance/mafia romance reader, I knew the second I saw this book sign-up, I had to read it. There was just something about it that drew me in and by the time I had finished the last page, I knew I had found a new favourite author who I’d be sticking with for a while yet.

When I saw from Lilian herself that this series would be adapted into audiobook, I couldn’t contain my joy and excitement. I’ve been getting more and more into audiobooks since 2019—having discovered a few favourite narrators along the way—, and since I’m only on one ALC team, I had the time and the means to listen to who Lilian would chose to lead us on this audio adventure.

Cue Teddy Hamilton and Callie Dalton. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to Teddy in numerous audiobooks in the past, but Callie would be new to me so I was looking forward to hearing her voice for the first time, and how she would bring the FMC to life through our ears.

The beauty of books allows for each reader to individually picture a scene, a character, a moment, but there’s only one shot at hitting the mark when it comes to the narration. One voice—or more—to bring out the essence of the character from the pages and Teddy and Callie both hit that mark. Michael’s sinister, dominating and soul-shaking self was perfected by Teddy in how he portrayed him through his voice. He was so unnervingly good at channeling Michael and all that came with him, that I had to pause the audiobook for some recovery time. What. A. Performance. He was equally matched and complimented by Callie as our FMC, Elsie. Callie brought the determination, bravery and backbone of the character to life brilliantly, and she was a delight to listen to. Such a lovely voice and a perfect match to Teddy’s titillating tones.

Even though I knew the story from having previously read the book, this audiobook was in a whole new league of its own and I cannot even begin to describe just how much steam, suspense, smut and oh so much more was turned up ten notches thanks to the out-of-this world narration. You’ll just have to take my word for it and find out for yourselves because trust me, it’s worth what you’ll experience listening to this audiobook by the end.

I was a fan of this book before listening to the audiobook, but I’m even more of a fan now thanks to it. It’s got me ramped up and excited for the future audiobooks to come for this series, without a shadow of a doubt. Teddy and Callie have hyped me up for what the rest of the audiobook series has to offer.

Brilliant job all round both to the narrators, and to Lilian for choosing them as our main characters. I’m thoroughly satisfied.

A fascinating Storyline!

The audiobook for this one! wow was it so fun. I enjoyed the narration of the story and how it all unfolded. I find out exciting and interesting. I liked both the characters and the MC’s sweet little girl. I liked how Michael was protective of Elsie and was super possessive. Elsie had it so tough I felt so heartbroken for her. The first few chapters were tough as she dealt with a lot.

There were different elements in the book that brought the story together so well. I was on the edge of my seat at each chapter. I think the audio was really great as it captures your attention.

Sinfully Amazing Story & Narration🎧

Lilian Harris pens another fantastic dark mafia romance novel, the first in her new and exciting “Messina Crime Family” series. The story hooked me in right from the start, grabbing my attention and holding it hostage the entire time. Elsie and her two friends, Kayla and Jade, all recent high school graduates, went on a road trip to have some fun before going to college. Except that road trip turned into a nightmare when all three were abducted and held captive for the next nine years, forced to endure all kinds of depraved acts on them, used and abused by numerous men. Elsie and Kayla stayed together, but they did not know what happened to Jade and never gave up on hope for her or to escape. Elsie sees an opportunity and takes it, but she may find herself in a worse predicament than before. Michael Marino, a devoted single dad and next in line to take over the reins of the Messina crime family when his father steps down. The only catch is he needs to marry, something he does not want to do, but will for the sake of family. And he finds the perfect women to be his fake wife, and he finds her right in his own home. I enjoyed this book immensely, the writing, plotting and world building is fantastic, as is the character growth and development. Michael can be a ruthless mafia boss, but he is one with a huge heart and you can see it when he is with his precious daughter, Sophia, who was adorable and was a true light in a story that had dark moments. I would have expected Elsie to have more issues than she did after being held captive for nine years. Though she was brave and held her own, and with Michael, she gave as good as she got. There is never a dull moment in this book, the story has plenty of drama, angst, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Lilian Harris, thank you for another terrific story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧  And for the amazing narration, Teddy Hamilton and Callie Dalton did a fantastic job bringing the characters and their story to life. They understood who they were portraying, giving each their own voice, and were believable in every role they played. Dalton nailed it as Elsie, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her fierceness to her determination to her caring and nurturing side. Hamilton did the same for Marina, playing the perfect mafia boss. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These talented and entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen.

THIS....WAS....INCREDIBLE

Sinful Vows is the first book in the Messina Crime Family series. This is a standalone in an interconnected series.

Story:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Y'ALL!! This is my first book by Lilian Harris and THIS....WAS....INCREDIBLE! Right off the bat, this was absolutely intense. This DOES deal with heavy subject matter, so I do advise that you watch your triggers. I think, for all of the hell Elsie went through, Lilian Harris did such a wonderful job capturing the emotional process of going through such traumatic events and suffering. As well as the healing process and being able to feel love again. Don't even get me started on Michael. OMG!! Not only is he dark and dangerous, but also a caring, loving dad...OMFG! He's the perfect package. And they got their HEA 😭😭😭 Definitely looking forward to listening to the next book!

Narration:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Teddy Hamilton and Callie Dalton did such an incredible job. The emotions they put into their characters, it was literally like watching a movie. I really got lost in their voices. Not me looking for other books they narrate lol

Fantastic Romantic suspense!

Romantic, mafia suspense. How good can it get? Well let me tell you! This is one of the best mafia romances I have listened to. It's packed full of all kinds of action and suspense with a thread of love that is undeniable. Elsie has finally gotten free from the hell her life had become. Kidnapped and used as a sex slave, she had to break out while she could and now her mission is to save her best friends. When she breaks into Michael's home, she doesn't get exactly what she was hoping for. A marriage of convenience to get Michael what he wants. What does she get out of it? He won't send her back to his rival. But will this work? With Sophie, his adorable daughter in the mix, this self made family is just that. But nothing is easy, it's mafia! And danger is lurking. It's just a matter of finding out who the enemy is. With twists and turns I didn't see coming, Lilian Harris mixes it all up and shocked me! I love this book. The broken Michael, the resilient Elsie, and the incredible Sophie give all the feels in the story, but with brothers and several other families in the mix, there is a cast of characters that I was hesitant to like or trust. What a ride this is and left me wanting more from this family!

To make this book even better, Teddy Hamilton and Callie Dalton tell the story. These two are fantastic together. Hamilton plays Michael. He is a myriad of personalities, from the dark and dangerous to the sweet and compassionate. Hamilton finds each nook and cranny of his feelings and brings them all to the forefront. Dalton comes in as the strong and tough Elsie. This woman has been through the ringer, and Dalton uses her voice to bring all of her pieces back together. This team made the listen and gave me hours of entertainment.

4.5 Stars!

For the past 9 years Elsie has been in captivity after she and her friends were kidnapped by the Bianchi family whilst on a road trip and trafficked. One day, Michael (son of the head of Messina mafia family) comes to do business with the Bianchis, and she escapes from captivity by hiding in his car and she ends up at his house. When Michael discovers her, he see this as an opportunity, as he needs a wife immediately in order to seem legit and take over his role as the new head of his mafia family. In return, he offers Elsie protection from her original captors and offers to help save her friends who are still in captivity.

This was actually pretty good. It starts off pretty dark and was tough to get through as we see Elsie and her friend in captivity. And, we see and experience some of what Elsie and her friends have been through the past 9 years. I did have to take a break because it was pretty dark, sad, and grim. However, I picked it back up, and once Elsie gets out of captivity, the story gets slight lighter. It's still dark romance so there's still some dark themes sprinkled throughout. The twist at the end, I lowkey saw coming, but it was still funny to see.

Overall, I really ended up enjoying it. The connection, and banter that Elsie and Michael had was fun to witness. I also loved seeing Michael be a great, but brutal mafia leader whilst also being so caring towards Elsie, as well as so gentle and loving towards his daughter Sophia. And, I really enjoyed seeing Elsie, Michael, and Sofia build a happy life and family together. If you're a fan of these tropes; possessive MMC, mafia stories, enemies-to-lovers, marriage of convenience, forced Proximity, single parent, pick this up!

Narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Callie Dalton. The audiobook blew me away. Both narrators were amazing with their narrations. Their voice perfectly captured the emotions and essence of the book and the characters. Highly recommend the audiobook if you're planning on reading this!
