Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

An uplifting and heart-warming novel about a family reunited, second chances and the power of forgiveness, from the author of Richard & Judy Book Club pick The Funny Thing about Norman Foreman.

Danny Mulberry is the definition of a man who 'could do better'. He hasn't spoken to his sister in sixteen years, spends most of his spare time in the local pub and currently lives in his best friend's garden shed.

But when the consequences of one drunken evening draw the attention of the press, a misleading article appears depicting Danny's less-than-perfect lifestyle as something covetable and wise. People start to think this apparently enlightened man could be the one with all the answers, and letters begin to flood in from strangers seeking his guidance.

Wolfie is the teenage daughter of Danny's estranged sister, Lou. She's never met her uncle. But her mother needs help, so when Wolfie sees Danny's picture in the paper, she sets out to find him.

Within a week, Danny goes from being responsibility-free to a big brother, an uncle and an unwitting existential 'guru' to some very lost souls.

Can he become the man they all need him to be?

I’d give it 6 if I could!

Heartwarming, great characters, funny and sad, best feel good book I’ve read in ages. I’m gutted it’s ended!

A lovely feel good listen

I listened to this book because I loved The Funny thing about Norman Foreman. The author writes children beautifully and I enjoy the cheeky humour. I found the storyline here a bit of a stretch though and while I wouldn't expect it to be totally believable (this is storytelling after all) some unlikely aspects were a bit distracting. I don't want to drop any spoilers so apologies for the vagueness.
Would I recommend this book? YES. It left me feeling uplifted and happy, and that is exactly what I hoped it would do.

Slow build but engaging

Quite different to Norman which I had really enjoyed, this was slow to start but then got you invested, and it’s an honest relatable story of life. Took a bit of time to get used to narration but turned out to be perfect choice for the book.

Move over Norman

I pre ordered this book the moment I left Norman to get on with his life without me.
Again you’ve not tried to tie up all the lose ends, life doesn’t work like that.
Relationships may flourish, they may not. The fact is, Danny and co allowed me into their lives for a few weeks and I wish them well.
Looking forward to your next works.
From the bottom of my heart, Thankyou.❤️

Heartwarming

This was a joy to listen to. So sweet, the perfect follow on to our friend Norman. This story brings laughter & sadness sometimes at the same time. Hits on serious everyday life & breaths hope onto the darkness.
