About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

In this sizzling dystopian romance, perfect for fans of
Fourth Wing and The Hunger Games, your secrets can be a death sentence, and there are rules to survival:

TRUST NO ONE.

Twenty-year-old Wren Darlington is not your ordinary Mod. She’s one of the most powerful in existence.

But her world is divided. On the Continent, being a known Modified means certain death, as the Primes - those immune to the biotoxin that nearly wiped out the population 150 years ago - want nothing more than to eliminate those who were enhanced by the toxin and developed psychic powers.

LIE TO EVERYONE.

Wren has survived all these years by concealing her abilities and keeping a low profile while doing what she can to aid the rebel Uprising in fighting against the Primes’ oppressive rule. But one careless mistake places her in the crosshairs of the Continent’s military, and she is forced to join their most elite program: Silver Block. Unwittingly, her enemy has given her - and the Uprising - the perfect opportunity to strike a devastating blow from inside their ranks.

AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T FALL FOR YOUR GREATEST ENEMY.

That is, if she can keep her powers hidden, survive training, and prove herself to Cross Redden, her cocky, maddeningly attractive commanding officer.

Despite the explosive chemistry between them, Wren cannot let Cross get in the way of her mission. But as war rages between Mods like her and those who aim to destroy them, emotions run high and secrets are revealed, forcing Wren to decide how far she’s willing to go to protect herself . . . and how much of the Continent is worth saving.

Editorial Review

A new series to obsess over
A dystopian, enemies-to-lovers tale with a powerful heroine and a dash of fantasy? Dani Francis, did you write this for me? Needless to say, I inhaled this debut, which hooked me from the outset with its air of mystery and surprising humour. Wren Darlington has spent her life hiding—both her true identity (which even she doesn’t know) and her powerful psychic abilities that would mean death by execution. Both by chance and by her own mistakes, she lands herself in the Continent’s military training program where she now has the opportunity to join the rebellion of Modifieds (like herself) and cause chaos from inside enemy lines. One problem (among many): Her attraction to her commanding officer. Amanda Dolan (Red Queen) is perfectly cast as Wren, and the twists that come in the final third of the book already have me aching for a sequel. —Katie O., Audible Editor

it was a wild ride of a plot with many twists and turns. I give it a strong 5 stars. The narration was well done. I do wish more authors would invest in duet narration with male narrators. It just makesit so much more enjoyable overall.

Thrilling

Whilst some parts where quite predictable at times, i actually really enjoyed this book! I’m always a bit skeptical when something is hyped too much, but the writing, characters and acting on the audio book is really enjoyable. I won’t say it was world shattering but a great read/listen

Really enjoyed!

To my surprise this book was really good. Gave it 4 starts because I feel the main characters needed a bit more depth and character development as individuals and as their relationship evolved. Actioned packed and exiting turns towards the end of the book. Loved it and looking forward for book 2.

Silver Elite - surprisingly good

Wow what a blast the whole book is, not a dull moment. Interesting world, characters, diverse magic world, action, romance and keeping secrets. And I got to read about military training time again, which is my current favorite trope. Hopefully the next part will be released soon.

Totally five stars!

A slow but good story if a little predictable. I still really enjoyed it and will definitely read the next book. Narrator was excellent and brought the FMC and MMC alive. A solid 4 out of 5 all round

I liked it overall but it's not well written and doesn't make sense, she does something one minute and is the best at it then a few chapters later she's worried about doing it in a far easier context? The substance is missing and there's no world building. I slept through 6 hours of it and didn't seem to matter, the bits I missed were explained later in the story. Predictable.

Feels like it's written to a checklist

The book was really predictable, and what annoyed me the most was the dedication text didn’t match the main character at all. overall, it was a bad book

Premesis was great but it was too long. Mostly it seems that this is ment to be series, not exactly work as individual book.

I am not a fan of fmc that should be smart and talented but in reality is just recless for no reason. She made idiotic choises with no concequenses.
I had hope for Cress but he also seemed to just go with everything Wren does.
Honestly thinking "I need to play smart and get no attention" to five seconds later stealing a motorcycle from army base with no plan and not get shot was it for me.

I don' t know if this was supposed to be an enemies to lovers story but I am not a fan when charracters have no personality. I get it he is hot but you can still be smart. You should be able to think even if he does not have his shirt on if not then girl you are a liability in army special unit and definitely not elite force material.

I was hoping to find survival story in dystopia world. Little more realistic fear of death, charracter growth, evaluation of own morals and ethics and mostly more conseques of one's actions and it would maybe work.
The world building was limited since she was mostly in isolation.

So many problems with the story
