Summary

In the summer of 1994, a workman at the historic mansion of railroad baron James J. Hill in St. Paul, Minnesota, stumbles on a long-hidden wall safe. When experts arrive to open the safe and examine its contents, they make an astonishing discovery. There, inside, is a handwritten manuscript bearing the signature of John H. Watson, MD. The manuscript contains the story of how Sherlock Holmes and Watson traveled to Minnesota to track a murderous arsonist - known only as the Red Demon - who is threatening both Hill and his Great Northern Railway.

Set against the backdrop of the real, devastating Hinckley forest fire of 1894, Sherlock Holmes and the Red Demon is the tense and atmospheric first novel in Larry Millett's classic series of adventures that brought Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to Minnesota.

Very enjoyable story and narration

I read or listen to novels and stories for entertainment; it's that simple.

I am a Brit; before I downloaded this I read other reviews that were critical of the Americanisation of some language and mannerisms.
These did not detract at all from the enjoyment of this.
Those critical of the use of "fall" for "Autumn" need to understand that the Victorians used the full term "Fall of leaf" etc, etc.
These minor language differences are irrelevant to the flow of the story.

This story was engaging to listen to and the author painted some great images in my mind as the narration progressed.

A very credible new Sherlock Holmes mystery

Really enjoyed it especially the explanation of how the missing story was found and where it was set - don’t want to say too much and give the game away for other readers

Unexpected good listen

I was apprehensive about listening to this as I love the Conan Doyle books but I was pleasantly surprised as to how good this book was.
Some phrases were repetitive but on the whole a good story. Will now give book 2 a listen 🤗

Sherlock Holmes with American accent

I don't know about the story. I couldn't manage to listen to the voice and pronounced American accent - this is so wrong.

Excellent

A gripping thriller. I love it when not all the answers are presented at once and it keeps you guessing right to the very end. Really well read by narrator.
