Summary
Some things are meant to remain in the past.
Dr. Hugh Meyer believed he had created the ultimate miracle. Using the DNA of ancient creatures preserved in the Arctic, he had genetically engineered one of the most remarkable species of sea creature to ever exist: Serpentem Vectem Cel—Serpent Eel. Believed to possess the cure for countless diseases, the creature holds great promise for the medical community.
All goes awry when the beast escapes containment. With a rapid growth rate and remarkable physical evolution, the beast travels to the coastal town of Spiral Bay. There, the creature designed to save human life instead starts taking it.
Fishing vessels are found wrecked, paddleboaters mysteriously disappear, and large whales turn up dead. Realizing his creation has become Mankind's worst nightmare, Hugh Meyer must join forces with the local police chief, a skillful mechanic, and a rich reality show star to bring the Serpent's rampage to a dead halt.

Needs more action less romance
The story was good but would of been better if there was more monster and less romance

Nope
This book did not have a single redeeming quality. For starters, if you are going to name your book Serpent and you're going to have all the characters ( including the scientist that cloned it) refer to it as a serpent then it might be a good idea to have the creature actually be a serpent. It only takes a 20 second search online to determine that an eel and a serpent are not even remotely the same thing.
Then you have the characters. My head hurts a little just thinking of how absolutely ridiculous they were! For the sake of time I'll put it simply... imagine a 14:year old boy writing the script for a Sci Fi movie, that pretty much sums up the characters.
Don't waste your time or money on this terrible, terrible book.

A nice mix of terror and likeable characters
I was surprised how much I liked the human cast, they're very nuanced and easy to root for. The serpent was great as well, very gross, but unique. It's nice to see something besides another shark attack novel.

Pretty Fun
I think the serpent action was pretty much on par. You could just imagine it by listening. However the town folks made it feel weak like a cheap tv movie instead of a big blockbuster production by the way it was written and or read. I’m inclined to think both.
To the audio producers:
I strongly recommend getting a female to do female voices rather than do a female imitation. Or just don’t imitate at all.
While the main vocals were good, others - not so much. It wouldn’t hurt to include water splashing sounds, engines noises etc to make it more immersive.

He did it again!
Wow. Another five star book we couldn’t stop listening to! Finished it in one day - 11 hours! Shared my earbuds with my husband so we could do things around the house while we listened to this nonstop suspenseful tale. It cracks me up that a book can make me cringe, gasp, yell and make my heart race. I just wish Mr Cole’s books would turn into movies. Thanks for another fantastic storyline Michael - can’t wait for the next one!

Great story!!!
I loved it. The author placed just the right amount of emphasis on both the human side and the creature. The creation of the creature for medical research and it's escape was believable and made since. The terror it caused before being brought down was well thought of. Great book.

Thrilling ride
This reminds me of the classic monster movies with a lot more action. You will not want to put this down.
