Falling stars are supposed to be a lucky sign, but not for Austen. Her new job as a secretary in an international games company isn't off to a good start. Her first assignment - decorating the Christmas tree in the lobby - results in a trip to the ER after Dee, the company's second-in-command, gets hit by the star-shaped tree topper. Dee blames her instant attraction to Austen on her head wound, not the magic of the falling star. She's determined not to act on it, especially since Austen has no idea that Dee is practically her boss.

Summary
A compelling stand-alone lesbian paranormal romance, part one in the award-winning Shape-Shifter series.
For solitary novelist Jorie Price, true love seems as fictional as the shape-shifting creatures she writes about in her paranormal romances. Griffin Westmore doesn't believe in love, either, but she's one of those not-so-fictional shape-shifters who secretly live among humans.
When Jorie's writing gets uncomfortably close to the truth, Griffin is sent to investigate and, if necessary, kill the author to protect the secrets of her kind. But when Griffin unexpectedly finds herself drawn to Jorie, her world is turned upside down. Hell, she's supposed to kill the human, not fall in love with her! How can she complete her mission now?
Contains mature themes.

Do Not Miss!
Even if paranormal stories are not usually for you, do not miss this one. This is Jae at her best! The plot is fascinating and original, there is wonderful romance as well as action, and the characterisation is superb as always. I love Jae’s novels, but in many respects this has become my favourite.
The narration by Abby Craden does it justice and, even though I know the story well, I loved every moment.

Absolutely love.
I love the writer she has so much talent and her books are so creative and well written. This particular book was absolutely enchanting finished listening in 3 days couldn’t put it down. The voice reading is relaxing and matches perfectly. A fantastic listen. Not as predictable as other lgbt romances out there and so much drama and a really unique idea and dynamic, really sets it apart from most of the previous supernatural romance that I have personally read before. True talent. Only complaint is that the succession of short stories that follows this is not available on audible haha.

Jae scores with this paranormal thriller!
Though I can't say that I specifically seek out paranormal shape-shifter books, if Jae writes it I will read it. Because the woman is good and she takes the time to flesh out characters and deliver fully developed stories. This is less of a romance than a "thriller" perhaps, but the slow burn of the connection between the two MCs is a thread throughout the book. If you're looking primarily for romance, it takes a really long time to get there. BUT if you're willing to make a time investment in an unusual and entertaining story with two strong female characters (while enjoying the delicious tones of Abby Craden) by all means, give this one a go. I'm glad I did!

Life can change and everything is second nature.
This paranormal story that Jae gives us is so well written I found my heartracing with the characters. Abby Craden is beyond amazing as she makes other world characters come to life. The earth and love the two wow become strong, loving partners that are so real thanks to Abby and Jae's brilliant writing. Jori is a writer with more skills than the books she writes. Her dreams are of a world she can only believe does not exist. Griffin is a liger that is very real and a part of Jori's dream world. They have a connection even they can't understand. As the shapeshifter world Jori writes about threatens the other world Griffin must go from being ordered to kill her to being her protector. They both must learn to trust each other and see those who love them in a different light. The story is full of very scary moments, amazing chance scenes, creatures that should scare us but ask us to suspend disbelief. There is so many twists and turns in this story you can't put it down. Stretch how you see the world and enjoy a cast of characters that you will love. I love when you can experience such complex characters and still love the journey. I loved this book.

i love it
this is probably one of the best Supernatural romance shapeshifter book that I have found that. I enjoy now I want more action and here but this is a romance story so that's not that kind of book but it was still entertaining the mystery for me kept me going from the first chapter I enjoyed it was a nice Slow Burn.
like super super slow burn so if you expecting the character to get together somewhere in the middle of the story that's not going to happen if.
you pretty much takes the whole story for them to even know if they're going to stay safe so it was a really good long slow burn story which.
I know this author the authors would be good at doing slow Burns which. I find a fresh breath of air sometimes and lesbian fix you know the romance is like right away but her. her work when she does romance story. or even action stories with romance. in it or adventure stories with romance in it the slow-burn is always there at it makes me enjoy her story even more
I the author pick the perfect person to portray these characters and their narration and that would. Abby craden. I think she knocked this one out the park. I am a huge fan of her since I found her on the honor series. I'm a huge fan and I can do nothing with it what if it wasn't her who read this book I probably wanted enjoyed it as much as I did because I'm such a big fan of her from her previous work that she's done and honor series.
is one of my favorite series where she's concerned like I said before it probably wouldn't work but I just love that she brought these characters to life the sounds of them the way they talk how they carry themselves the passion even a fear of of each other or the unknown for one another she just did it all and it just made me enjoy the story even more
honestly I was a big fan of both main characters but I think Griffin kind of was my favorite. she was mysterious but she had this I can't even describe Griffin just had this wounded hero Pride.who wanted to do the good thing. but didn't know how to go about it and was stuck between both sides of her family and I kind of just felt for her more because she never asked to be born never asked to be put in a position where she was torn between her father's family and her mother's Legacy and I felt kind of bad for her and since I'm a not trying to spoiled. but it was just originated with her character a lot don't get me wrong the other female character also. was enduring to her struggle was interesting as well I think they both played off each other very well and I like most of characters a Butch and Femme kind of story so.
not saying that the other main character is weak by any means but because of her small stature and her morphe m a spectre of her it would give that impression but she has fire and she's not afraid to speak her mind and except when it comes to her mom so jewelry is an interesting character and I think both female characters balance each other out very well they have a nice given pool of weaknesses and strengths that they both use and I like that I like how that was used

Very good!
I had this book on pre-order mostly because I LOVE Abby Craden and I like Jae well enough. This story was interesting and very well thought out. There are lots of players to keep track of but it doesn’t get confusing. The story is intricate but not complicated. Abby Craden, as alway, gave a wonderful performance. Jae tends to focus on the story more than the romance and I both love and hate that about her writing. I’m a mushy romantic so I like the focus to be on the romance but Jae makes it interesting and fast paced enough to where the story still holds my attention. I wish there were more paranormal lesbian romances out there. Gerri Hill has a couple and I LOVE them. (Also narrated by Abby Craden) This one was also very good and worth the credit. Happy reading!

Too Short!
I love a good slow burn, which this definitely was. The characters were great, the ending felt... off, like we went through every moment together and then skipped months and months of their actual romantic progression. If you don't mind that part then its amazing for its action and adventure, some parts had me screaming in my car on the way to work. I couldn't stop listening, I even played it before bed and I will probably listen to it again. Jae is an amazing writer and Abby Craden's voice is like a drug.

The slowest of slow burns!
This book was every bit as great as I'd hoped. I love how the story focused on the relationship between Jorie and Griffin without the relationship developing unrealistically soon. Jorie's reservations and the precarious circumstances she found herself in made for an unlikely foundation for a romance to bloom from, and I'm glad the author didn't force it.
All the characters were great. I laughed, groaned and cursed out loud at various points throughout, and the story hooked me from the start.
Would recommend. Will listen again.
