Summary

From the best-selling author of Queen of Cowboy: regrets and old heartbreaks are unearthed in this sweeping love story as hometown sweethearts get a second chance at love - and being a family.

Retired combat medic Jesse Ryan hasn’t been home much since he enlisted twenty years ago. Now he’s headed back to Texas to help take care of his aging foster parents and run Sunflower ranch. But when he gets there, he finds his parents’ live-in nurse is Addison Hall, his high school best friend and the woman he always regretted leaving behind after their one steamy night together before he shipped out. He’s not at all surprised that their chemistry is still sparking, but Jesse is shocked to learn Addy gave birth to a little girl about nine months after he left - his little girl.

Addy has her hands full as a single mom of a nineteen-year-old daughter who suddenly wants to rebel at everything. The last thing she needs is Jesse Ryan complicating her life even further, especially since she’s always had a crush on the handsome cowboy. But the more time she spends with Jesse, the more she wonders what might happen if they finally let their friendship blossom into something more and became the family she’d always hoped for.

Includes the bonus novella Small Town Charm for the first time in print!

Cowboy Fluff

So the truth is that reading fluff is like eating brownies. It's yummy but only in small doses, lol. With almost 930 titles in my library, you can bet I've eaten a few brownies to go along with my well-varied diet. This title is entertaining and fluffy, just as you'd expect. I was pleased that she showed some restraint with her "first they played this song talking about this thing and then they played that song talking about that thing" though it was only mild restraint. That part always feels like we have a fourteen year old girl writing fan fiction.

Saw some complaints about Chelsea Hatfield's narration. She does a few of Carolyn Brown's titles. I get it. The stilted way she narrates the conversations makes the characters seem a bit dense though I can't say it bothers me greatly. She does need to get a middle aged female voice in her box though. It's difficult to listen to Addie sound like a 20 year old. I would say she narrated the college aged female as a fourteen year old but, to be fair, Brown gave the personality of an adolescent so it kind of fit.

Complaints aside, I've been using my reviews to highlight something that landed in a Publisher's article about the industry's desire to eliminate or reduce the engagement of voice actors for audio titles and use A.I. instead. Voice actors are the reason we love audiobooks so much. They're the reason we laugh and cry and keep spending way too much of our discretionary income on audiobooks. In their greed, they would cut out the voice actor to save money and increase their profit margins. I, for one, will not be purchasing a single title that is not narrated by a live voice actor. I'm hoping if enough of us let them know what we think of their automation plan, they'll think twice,

Happy listening!

Carolyn Brown does it again!

Welcome to Sunflower Ranch. The first in a series about the three adopted prodigal Ryan sons, this book introduces us to Jesse Ryan, an Air Force medic that has left the service to come back home and run the ranch. In typical Carolyn Brown style, the love story unfolds, all the while introducing the characters we will see in future books of the series. While I enjoyed the book and the different personalities of each character we are introduced to, the narrator of the book was painful at times to listen to. It sounded forced and didn't flow as well as other narrators. Regardless, I can't wait for the next book!

Thank you for our cowboy stories back

I have been missing these stories and characters by c. Brown. I love a wholesome story! Intimate scenes that spare details. I was annoyed with the daughter character but I guess thats how the author intended. I cant wait for the next book in this series!!!

Soothing

I love listening to Carolyn Brown books, they're the audio version of a Hallmark movie. I know I can relax with any of her books. After listening to a twisty, tense thriller I always go to a Brown novel to relax. I love the country western songs her characters reference and have added several to my playlist. I love that she doesn't bring politics into her books too. I need the escape! I have several more of her books in my library but am listening to a murder mystery right now, guess what comes next?

Narration by C Hatfield is stilted, un-natural and very hard to listen to.

I always enjoy Carolyn Brown books as easy listening and enjoyably heartwarming. However I will not purchase another book narrated by C Hatfield.

Great story, terrible narrator

I almost stopped listening to this a couple minutes in because of the narrator’s voice. It is harsh and grating and doesn’t change throughout the book. I am glad I kept listening because it is a delightful story. It could just have been so much better with a different narrator.

Sweet stories

I thought this was a sweet story. I am happy to listen to a story that has a good storyline that is not raunchy. It’s refreshing. I also liked the narrator. I’m glad to hear an American voice. I’ve been reading/listening to a lot of authors that are British. It’s nice to financially support and hear American Authors/ Narrators.
