About this listen

Suzy Hope is adrift. She's divorced, living hand to mouth, and hasn't been on a date in eons. And then, on the morning of her mother's funeral, a letter lands on her doormat. She recognizes the handwriting at once. It's from Johnny, her first love. Enclosed is a CD, a compilation of tracks from their time together in the '70s and '80s. Instantly Suzy feels young again and longs to listen, but then the hearse arrives; now is not the moment for nostalgia.

After the wake is over, Suzy is returning crockery to the village hall in the pouring rain when—Bam!—she is knocked down by a car speeding down the country lane. She wakes in hospital, disorientated. She can hear music and friends laughing. Feel water, freezing water, on her skin. An eerie silence, and then the screams begin....

She has been badly concussed, nonetheless, she is terrified. Her son, Cameron, and her best friend, Debs, are mystified, and her own memory seems full of holes. To fill in the blanks, Suzy goes online and soon she is reliving her past meeting Glenn, the biker who led her a merry dance, seeing Zelda, the friend turned lover who showed her the power of political activism, and yearning again for Nate, the golden boy who shared her passion for rave music and Ecstasy. Yet as she relives the thrills of her youth, the waves of fear grow in intensity.

Will Suzy face her inner demons and learn to live and love again? Or will she be left forever unable to separate what happened yesterday from what's going on today, replaying the soundtrack of a happy ending that continues to elude her?

A very nostalgic story for anyone born in the 1960s. Extremely moving and good narration
