Summary
When the body of a fast-living young stockbroker is found in a shallow grave, suspicion first falls on a cuckolded policeman. Lieutenant Joe Gunther investigates the increasingly bizarre details of the crime, but he's too far behind events to prevent a second murder. Indeed, whoever is responsible always seems to be a few steps ahead, as if there's a leak in the police force. Sweltering August heat does nothing to calm the increasingly agitated town selectmen, who demand results.

Enjoying the series
What I enjoy most about this series is the attention to detail such as the hospital emergency care. It brings the story into the real world which I can engage with

Loved it!
More turns than a piglet’s tail!
Perfect pace, perfect characters, suspense building, red herrings landed! Could NOT spot whodunnit. Kept me hanging til end. Thanks. Brill ,

Overly Long
Although I have given it 4*, I picked up on whodunit very early, but as this is before all the tech advances found the narrator very soothing, going through all the updates as the case proceeded. I also found, that a few too many characters were included in my view.

Easy listen
This is just a nice series! Not taxing. Well drawn characters but I feel I listen because of the narration which makes it an easy listen.

Brilliant
Edge of your seat stuff. I’ve started guessing the suspect through most of his books so far without success but for the first time I hit the jackpot. Still can’t wait for the next one

Great to the end
I had never heard of Archer Mayor before he came up in the included section. These are great well written detective crime novels. The stories have just enough momentum to keep you listening. I will download book 3 now.

Almost too Formulaic
It's good and worth a listen with an exciting climax. The problem he needs to watch is after three book I'm finding the story and plot line becoming formulaic in structure with someone from the outset framed. I hope he has got over that plotlne as he is a pretty decent writer.
