Summary

They say power corrupts the soul. Sometimes you take the risk.

I was just a cop on my beat when the world ended. My last memory was of an alien death ray ripping me from existence. When I woke up in a strange world, I should have just laid low. Figured out the rules of this place before I got involved. But, when you see a woman running from slavers. Well, let's just say they got what they deserved. Only problem is that makes enemies—demigods with the power to bind the magically gifted women of Timeria to their will. I can stop them, with powers bestowed by a god. But, they come with a catch; I must bind these women, the Chosen, to my very soul. Just like the demigods I want to stop.

Looking forward to the sequel.

Firstly it's refreshing to see an audiobook which doesn't repeat recycled tropes other authors in the genre use frequently as some soft of formulaic conveyor belt to creating a book as Patrick shows he has put the time in to create a original story.

The main character is flawed and is aware of this and wish's to tackle his demons and become a more rounded individual which wants you to see how he develops in the future with his group as the plot progresses.

Hopefully we get a sequel audiobook shortly!

Good but too much mind control

Narration was great, however we could have done without the mind control and interludes.

A very good start for a new author.

Couple things up front. I am not going to go too deep into the story as I do not want to spoil anything. Also, when it comes to reviewing, I tend to take it easier on the first and last book of any series. Not every series makes it to “The End” and the beginning of anything tends to be shaky. With regard to this book, it appears that the narration team as well as the author are relatively new to this kind of work. I am familiar with the company that the narration team works for. In my experience they have never done anything less than stellar work. I do not believe that this is the first book that the narration team has worked on, but they still are on the new side. As far as the lady narrator is concerned, I think she hit it out of the park. As for the gentleman narrator, I am unsure as to whether or not he's leaving himself room to develop the character as far as he can in subsequent books or if he's just in need of a little seasoning. It came off as being a little over the top and some of the supporting characters sounded almost wooden. Apologies for not being able to articulate that better. As for the author as I said he also appears to be new. It looks like he was a part of some collaboration that released on September 23rd of 2021. And then he's got a book that came out November 7th, 2021. Then there's this one and its sequel which already is available for preorder and should be released April 15th, 2022. In the aforementioned context I think the story was really beautifully written. I certainly enjoyed it and was thoroughly entertained. There's definitely a lot in the story for him to make this possibly a 12-book series at least. I'm not sure he'll go in that direction right out the gate, but I haven't heard anything as to whether he intends to do a trilogy or a full-blown series. As for the story, we have got evil aliens with enough power to be mistaken as gods. Worse they are bored and so some are messing with mortals. We have got an MC on an advanced earth who is killed and is transported to a new world. It is our MC versus one of the bored aliens. Then we have multiple fantasy races and for humanity the ladies are in charge due to their witchy powers. It is a classic good versus bad kind of story where the good guy finds himself having to commit an evil for the greater good, sort of speak. It looks like one of the problems for the MC is struggling with the fact that he has to do almost the exact same thing as the villain in order to defeat him. I am interested in how that is going to evolve. So, the final take away for me is, yeah if you are reading this review pick up this book. I think it is worth your time and treasure. I eagerly await the next installment. Lastly, to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the listeners, well done and congratulations.

A decent listen in the genre

This was a good listen that delivered exactly what you would expect. This story doesn’t recreate the genre but also doesn’t fall prey to a ton of tropes. It is a solid listen for those looking.

The MC is reasonably likable and we learn alongside him. He has some short comings and decidedly makes poor decisions. These fall in line with his character though.

The narrators did a great job of bringing the story alive. The effort is there to hear and makes it an easy listen.

This story is a solid 3.5-4 but I give it a 5 due to how Amazon treats ratings.

Really enjoyed it

I thought it started slow, but once the plot developed, I couldn't stop listening. Narration was very good, especially for the female characters. Looking forward to the next story.

great story....narrator eh

I loved the story. it had love and adventure, the only issue I had was the narrator seemed to bring the wrong emotions in at the wrong time. sounding sarcastic when the statement would be except the situation is serious. Also one villian was voiced as a WWF personality but was actually a serious threat to the MC.

A strong story

I really liked this story, the characters are fleshed out well and by the end of this first book not only was I hopeful for more but I understood the motivation of the main villain which is kinda rare. They are usually just there to be an antagonist. Give this a listen if you like a solid story, there are a few extreme moments but they help fill the story out by the end.

Decent start

The concept and plot are a good start. The narrator makes some parts a bit over board and uses his expressiveness in ways I wouldn’t. Constant indecisiveness and weakness coming through in his voice in more spots than I care for

Not bad at all

I enjoyed this one. Only things I did not care for was some of the mc’s hang ups and just the male narrator in general. Always have issue with his wack ass voices he does. If it’s not the mc the voice is childish or like a grandfather telling his grandkids a fairy tale. Then he has that whine he does when nervous , scared and sometimes when excited. He didn’t do this in the first 2 books I’ve listened to with him but now it feels like he’s trolling

Very enjoyable listen

First, the MC is actually almost relatable for someone who was transferred to a new world. The voice actors a great and bring life and depth to the characters. Since you can't please everyone, I have some complaints. However, I'll keep them to myself since I think they are my personal views based upon my life and experiences.

Anyway, this is not a fast-paced listen, but it is also not "Slice of Life". I'd say medium paced with a pinch of "SoL". It's a good combo and really works for this book. The sex scenes are tastefully graphic. They are also segregated between protagonist and antagonist and set a tone for the good and bad mc's. My biggest issue is the wait for book 2.

highly entertaining

an interesting harem Isekai where the mc is a cop and former marine the interactions with the women of the story with the mc and main villain are unconventional and not something I have ran across before. for me this title has a big highlander vibe and an looking forward to book 2 to see how it plays out
