Summary

She only wanted a fake boyfriend.

She ended up with a hitman.

Magdalena McCarthy

All I wanted was a date to accompany me to dinner with my parents.

A decoy to distract my mother from her ongoing mission to find me a husband.

What started out as another awkward dinner ended with us being run off the road.

Turns out my pretend boyfriend isn't who I thought he was.

He isn’t even the man I was supposed to hire.

And he has secrets that might just save us from the nightmare unfolding around me.

Rook Chambers

I moved to Glenville to start over, to escape my dark past.

And found myself mistaken for a boyfriend for hire.

I go along with the charade, only to find myself entangled with the life I left behind.

I could walk away and leave her to her fate.

After all, she's just a girl. A nobody. An innocent pawn in a dark world.

We don't even exist in the same reality.

But now, I may be the only person who can keep her alive.

Fantastic Listen!

I'm simply blown away. Rook is phenomenally written and a must-listen. The storyline is enticing, refreshing, tantalising, thrilling, and riveting, a fake-boyfriend trope with so many layers. The main characters, Rook and Magdalena, are downright marvellous. Magdalena hires Rook to pretend to be her boyfriend for her birthday dinner with her demanding parents. The last thing she wanted was to have her overbearing mother set her up with another perfect man. Rook, a retired hitman, is baffled by Magdalena's proposition but still up to the challenge; a change from his usual wouldn't be so bad. How hard will pretending to be a boyfriend will be? This book offers a perfect blend of romance, humour, steam, drama, danger, kidnapping, action, suspense, and some surprising twists. It was a terrific listen, with no dull moments. I'm crossing my fingers for L. Ann to expand Rook into a series; so we all get the chance to know the loyal Chamber Brothers more.

Stellar narration! Thomas Locklear and Elise Hoffman were absolutely amazing and flawless in their roles. They captured and emulated the nuances of personality, chemistry and intensity in the pages, breathing life into the written words. Loved listening to both, especially Thomas Locklear; he literally makes every book a joy. Overall, Rook was a fantastic listen, one I'll highly recommend.

Perfect

I loved reading this book but listening to it was so much better . Rook is everything and the cameo from Deacon was perfect. Deacon was in L.Ann’s Midnight Pack if you haven’t read or listened to them you need to.

my beating heart

Brilliant dual narration of Thomas Locklear and Elise Hoffman. Both amazing and just a master piece of story telling. Both of them bought the characters , plot , heat , action to life. Loved listening.

Lets say Magdalena family is one of the worst but , she’s resilient, stronger , feisty and lovable.

While Rook is dangerous, deadly, unapologetic, sarcastic and violent man with a dark past Now retired he only wants to be left alone.
We have mistaken identity and a fake date. That turns into an action-packed, violent and thrillingly wild ride.

Loved both these characters and this plot will blow you away.

Amazing

As one of my favourite authors L. Ann has gone and surprised me again with her creative characters and a well executed story.
Magdalena a sweet girl looking to stop her mothers efforts in finding her a husband, hires Rook to be the perfect boyfriend. Little does she know how much that decision will change her life forever.
These two characters are thrown together in a highly intense situation that has you on the edge of your seat and listening til late in order to get all the answers. Answers you are certain that you couldn’t imagine!!
I highly recommend this read !! It’s fun, full of action and also a bit of steam is added to round it out as the ultimate romance read.
I’m keeping my eyes pealed for the next story I’m hoping for more!!
The two narrating this were a match made for audio. Their voices just complemented each other and I found myself getting lost in the story because of the excellent performance. A must listen.

As always great job done

It wasn't one of my favourite books read by the fantastic Thomas Locklear.
As I always enjoy listening to him.
I guess he has to work what is given to him and has done his best.
the story itself was ok.
interesting concept of love in a strange way.
thanks for letting me have this free book I really appreciate it.
the men are named after chest pieces which made me chuckle.
so who is next on LcAnn list of hit men!!

A Thrilling Ride

I really loved this book until the epilogue! It gripped me from the beginning and literally I didn't put it down until I finished it.

Rook was a delicious bad man and Dally although soft was so sassy and had to put up with so much.

The premise of the story is that Dally paid for a fake boyfriend but got the wrong one by mistake, which actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise!

The problem I had was the twist at the end which to me didn't make sense and I felt that her mother had got off far too lightly for being the witch that she was!!

In summary, if you're are looking for a thrilling ride, this is right up your street and the duet narration is perfection!

➖❤️➖ A FIVE STAR THRILLING ROLLERCOASTER ➖❤️➖

Well, I’m certainly going to sit up and take notice of this new-to-me author from now on, because this very exciting and unique story drew me in right from the mistaken identity start. And, as the drama, angst, friction, suspense, death toll, suspicions, revelations and tender feelings between Rook and Dally grew, I high-fived this author as I fell in love with her very entertaining book. The hardened retired handsome tattooed hitman and the sheltered woman who hired HIM on fake date.. a date that would pack a weighty punch and change both their lives. There’s an age-gap.. but that’s not important, they’re from two very different worlds.. but somehow they make it work and there’s many many challenges ahead.. but together they conquer every dangerous and not so dangerous one. The duet-style dual narration was great making the scenes flow more naturally and both narrators were the perfect fit for their characters and the story.

Worth a credit? Yes I reeeeealy enjoyed this very entertaining climactic listen. From Dally’s dysfunctional dislikable family, through the quick-build tension, thrills and suspense of the despicably wonderful storyline and on. Meeting Rook’s mysterious and equally interesting brothers Knight and Bishop (who will hopefully each be getting their books released soon) as I’m sure there’s lot to uncover there. And, being swept away by a tender, sweet, passionate, sexy, challenging and chaotic romance that was created under gunfire, honed with danger and love and forged into a five star listen.

Outstanding! Not what I expected but so much more!

What an amazing story! This author has done it again! Created memorable characters, a remarkable story and the possibility of future novels. Then add in the listening experience of Thomas Locklear and Elise Hoffman and this just gets leveled up! I knew this was going to bo good right away when the two main characters have their meet cute. I could listen to Mr Locklear’s guy saying “You want the full package” over and over to his miss-taken-identity. I enjoyed the interaction between Magdalena and Rook! They made me laugh, chuckle and swoon plus I liked that she did not roll over for him right away.

Overall I was excited for this and am pleased it lived up to my expectations. The narration by Mr Locklear and Ms Hoffman was perfectly done.

I highly recommend this story!

Strong Woman

This is a great story. It starts with a meet cute that is a mistaken identity that sets Dally on a dangerous roller coaster ride that will not quit. Rook is a hard man who seems to have no gentleness, no conscious, but when it comes to Dally that is so far from the truth that it is almost unbelievable. I love Knight and Bishop. Dally's mom and dad and brother are almost evil in their lack of feelings for Dally. Dally has to be strong to persevere from her family life alone, not to even mention what she goes through from almost the moment she meets Rook. Her sister turns out to not be like the rest of the family after all. I enjoyed this book through the audio version and the narration is perfection.

It was the messy that I didn't known that I needed with a surprise plot twist that I didn't see happening.
