THAT voice!

Amazing…..could listen to that voice forever, Mr Burton is mesmerising. Could do with poem titles instead of chapters, but quite frankly would listen to this man reading a shopping list!

Richard Burton's wonderful voice.

Loved most of the poems and of course richard Burton's readings, irritated by no poem titles.

Exquisite!

Ten stars would not do justice to this absolute gem of a performance of the poems of a man who always thought himself more of a poet than a novelist - and, although his novels are also great, he was right!

Beautiful poetry enhanced by brilliant narration

Grateful thanks to reviewer Simon Jude for supplying the titles to these poems. Being able to read the words while listening is a great help to understanding and appreciating the poetry. Richard Burton's rendition is sublime.

An absolute gem

I dont think I have ever heard anyone read poetry like Richard Burton. His sense of rhythm and cadence are simply uncanny, as is his understanding of the poem; and then there is the voice - listening to him read Hardy's poetry and you begin to understand why everyone used to rave about him. Brilliant stuff.

I used to have this reading on a cassette but lost it - to my great dismay - so I was delighted to see it available on Audible.

If you like poetry, then you will love this unique reading - an excellent selection too. Strongly recommended.
