Summary

'Characters you'll come to love and a story that keeps you turning the page.' Rosie Goodwin

The fourth book in a dramatic and moving World War II saga series of family, secrets and lies. Perfect for readers of Ellie Dean and Annie Groves and for fans of the Home Fires series.

All is not well at Castle's Café. Since the fatal shooting, customers have been staying away, and now Nellie finds herself in debt to the sinister Terence Carter. But when a deadly attack strikes close to home, these troubles pale into insignificance.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Castle's relationship with family friend Reenie Turner has deepened, and in the aftermath of the attack that could so easily have killed them, they decide to get married.

But the return of an old friend threatens to expose a long-held secret, leaving the wedding teetering on the brink of disaster . . .

wonderful series

This series of books takes you back in time. This instalment is just as powerful as the others. The characters all get under your skin in good and bad ways. The Castle family is central to the whole series and the narrator is amazing and gives life to each and every family member.

I can't wait for another book

So hooked!!!

Cannot wait for the next installments! The characters are so real and human, you can't help but care for them all.The historical context of Dover in WWII has me intrigued, I was blissfully ignorant when I went to school there in the late 70s. I also appreciate that the author has included many topics that are still very relevant today, if not more so eg homophobia, PTSD, child refugees in boats crossing the channel...
Great family drama with plenty of humour to lighten the suspense - I could not stop listening and the brilliant narrater, Bea Holland must take some of the credit.

excellent story

this series of books keeps getting better, please Ginny Bell write the next one soon,.
the story feels so reel that I could image everyone in it and feel for each character.
these books are a must if you love this era as I use to listen to my mum tell her story when she lived there through the war.

Brilliant!

An enthralling read from start to finish. The characters are so real you feel you know them personally. You sympathise and empathise with them with their struggles and admire their tenacity, bravery and unconditional love. I have read every Dover Cafe book and highly recommend them. Desperately hoping there will be a fifth book to continue their story.

Going back into the story was such happiness.

It was really great have been waiting for this release for a while now and starting listening to the book was like you'd never been away, but with all the normal up's and down's I enjoyed every bit and will admit that there was a tear at the end,but can't wait for the next one now.

Fast paced and involved

There was almost too much action and twists to the plot to take in. I hope there will be more books on the series so we know what happens to the Castle family next.

A very slight niggle every time the narrator mispronounced Philip’s title. Her character voices were very good, so you knew instantly who was speaking before their name was mentioned.
