Then Jack forgot about the rest of his work, because on his first day, an extraordinary document crossed his desk. The new Pope had just delivered a private ultimatum to Warsaw: If the government persisted in its repression, he would feel compelled to resign the papacy and return to Poland.
That was going to have consequences.

Great tale wrapped around a truth
The tale took a while to get going but when it did it was the edge of the seat and plausible story we are used to from the pen of Tom Clancy.
The attention to detail was demonstrated by the location of the home Jack and his family had while in the UK. Trains from Chatham into London Victoria were at the time, a fairly quick service with just 1 stop before arriving. The journey from the station to Grizedale Close was described fairly accurately as it’s a journey I am familiar with as I lived in Grizedale Close around the time the Ryan’s lived there.
On the downside, as a Brit, the English accents were a little weak but most listeners not native to the UK won’t really notice it.

One of the weaker books of the series
This is an odd one, potential for a really good story here. However, at times it is hard to get past the hyper masculinity of the Jack Ryan character and the pseudo xenophobic thinking.

A bit of a ramble
I’ve really enjoyed other Jack Reacher books, but this one keeps going off to long rambling backgrounds that don’t help with the pace of the book.

An early Clancy story of the beginnings of Ryan
The start of Jack Ryan's clandestine employment by The CIA. A long & informative start career leading him in many different personas until the ultimate position of the leader of the world's most powerful leader.

Excellent
I love the Tom Clancy novels. The stories are excellent if a little dated now. However, the narrator is way too monotone in his reading and it takes away from the story.

Classic Clancy
Loved this book, slow to begin with, but this is because of the detail Clancy goes into, which always allows the remainder of the book to fall in place.

Mr Clanys own subjective consciousess review
an absolutely odd piece of work..
continously studying the internal emotional battle of individuals, rather than a thriller or traditional status.
Repetitive, and, may I say, quite a dull experience, very much at odds with other work by the author.
