About this listen

A young man's odyssey of self discovery in a world eerily alien, yet hauntingly familiar. Set 13 centuries in the future, A. A. Attanasio meticulously creates a brilliantly realized Earth, rich in detail and filled with beings brought to life with intense energy. In this strange and beautiful world, Sumner Kagan will change from an adolescent outcast to a warrior with god-like powers and in the process take us on an epic and transcendent journey.

It’s an epic story, and is a bit different too. A lot of it is about states of perception, mind, identity, consciousness and existence, so won’t be for everyone. I enjoyed the epic journey, and it also made me look at things in a different way, at over the time I have been listening. The narration wasn’t very good, but not too bad to distract much.

read this year's ago and wanted to relive it, but it's so badly read I couldn't get far into it before deleting, a real pity.

good book but...

The author might have been trying to subvert the tendency to skip over characters' bodily functions, but I doubt it. Maybe those bits were meant to be humorous, but the narration is so monotonous, it's impossible to tell.

Flat and icky
