Story
There's an underground black market for arcane things. Akin to the trade in rhino horns or tiger bones, this network traffics in remains of gryphons, faeries, goblins, and other fantastic creatures. When her fiance Vince goes missing, Angela Gough, an American criminology student, discovers he was a part of this secretive trade. It's a big-money business-shadowy, brutal, and sometimes fatal. As the trail leads her deeper into London's dark side, she crosses paths with a crime lord whose life is dedicated to collecting such relics.

Unsettling and entertaining
Talented narrator Helen Langford entertains the listener with a breathless and emotional performance for White Pines, the new cosmic-folk-Celtic-cult-fantasy-horror audiobook from Gemma Amor, the Bram Stoker Award-nominated author of Dear Laura and Cruel Works of Nature.
The story is told in first person, which makes it even more personal, and follows a woman as she returns to her roots in a strange and creepy village. This is a dark, gripping, terrifying, and entertaining novel that will haunt your dreams!
The writing is sharp, powerful and vivid, the events are truly unsettling and the entire adventure is creepy and very atmospheric. I really don’t want to get into any more details because this tale of darkness and despair, strange creatures and unfortunate events should be experienced exactly as the author intended.
Helen Langford does a great job of bringing to life Megan, Matthew, other characters, and the terrifying events that our protagonists live through. Helen reads in a pleasant voice, she quickly finds a suitable pace for the story and keeps it constant throughout the more than nine hours of the audio production. Her British accent is just perfect for White Pines and her narration is quite enjoyable.
White Pines is one of those books that will stay with me for a long time! That’s because both the exquisite writing and the excellent performance have combined to create a really immersive narrative experience for me, as a listener.
I love the attention to details from the author, including the insightful names for each chapter and I’m really glad to have discovered Helen Langford as a narrator because she is very gifted.
