Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Some people are born to be a certain thing.

And I was a born fighter.

At the age of eight, Michael Bisping began his training in martial arts. By the time he was 15, he was fighting in his first no holds barred competition. When he turned professional and joined the UFC he was sure about one thing: only a world championship title would do. A British underdog in the greatest fighting championship on earth, he spent the next decade winning some of the championship’s most sensational contests to achieve his dream, becoming the first ever British UFC world champion in 2016.

From his boyhood years learning to fight in the gyms of Lancashire to his most shocking clashes in the cage, in Quitters Never Win Bisping tells the raw and unfiltered story behind his legendary career for the first time, including his greatest wins, his fiercest rivals and the harrowing injury that forced him into retirement. As audacious, entertaining and as candid as the man himself, it’s a backstage pass to one of the world’s most extreme sports and an unbridled account of what it really takes to become a champion, from sleeping in his own car to reaching the summit of the world’s fastest growing sport.

Winners never quit.

This is an honest, entertaining book and a typically British tale of triumph through adversity. I’ve been listening to the BYM podcast since its inception and thought I’d heard all his anecdotes but this gives another perspective on his life and career. In parts it feels like you’re getting the inside scoop on the MMA world.

My only criticism of the audio version is of the narrator.... he drove me mad! His mispronunciation of fighter names, weights, dates, TUF, RVCA and even Ditto’s name were all irritating enough but his attempts at accents were even worse!

I don’t understand why Bisping didn’t narrate this himself. As someone who now makes his living from commentating and podcasting, he has a funny, fluent and natural style of speaking and had he done it himself, it would have made this a much more engaging listen.

Great story , terrible narration.

Michael Bisping and his story is exceptional, however, so much is lost in translation because he did not read it himself. The narration is wooden at best. I’m guessing that Bisping accent may have been a bit much for the American market and that’s why they have used someone else to read it.

Bisping is best known (after and 2nd to his skills in the octagon) for his razor sharp Northen wit, the narrator does not do this justice.

The story is wonderful, a rocky story of the octagon age! His achievements are outstanding considering he fought quite a chunk of his career blind in one eye.

Great but reader, not so much

I loved this book however I struggle when the author does not read their own autobiography. I know you are busy but would have been a nice touch.

Best MMA book by far

Absolutely phenomenal book loved it,, by far the best mma book out there, unfortunately i didn't like the narration what so ever, I could have done with out the bad accents and constant pauses of sentences that required no pause, Also not entirely sure if the narrator knows much about MMA as throughout the book would get simple terms wrong and miss pronounce fighters names, that being said i still loved the book and could listen to it again Bisping was always one of my favourites!!

The grind

Fantastic story that is well read although i was left wishing that Bisping had read it himself. The American accents were worth it though 😂.

Great 👍🏽👍🏽

Thoroughly enjoyed this book even if you aren't into MMA it's still a great read about a man who fulfilled his potential and overcame all obstacles, I tip my hat to Mike Bisping.

Pioneer

Bisping is a pioneer of UK MMA amd his story is so compelling. The things he endured amd the support of his wife, his kids, his parents and the journey he went on is so compelling. I was gripped from the first few words all the way to the end and I highly recommend this book.

Amazing inspiring story

As a fan of Michael bisping, I really enjoyed hearing his full story.
A great British underdog story with many challenges along the way, I would recommend to any combat sports fans.
I would prefer to have Bisping read the book, especially with his accents for different characters.
