Expectant Father 2020
We found out we were pregnant at the end of lockdown for the COVID-19 pandemic and I, as I often do, started to obsess about all things baby.
I took a quick look for audio books aimed at men and what to expect for the fathers side of things. This book is great for its informative month by month sections, glossary and sometimes humour.
I must admit I wasn’t much of a fan of the constant jokes throughout and it felt a little, like other reviewers have said, Dad jokey! I suppose anyone ready/listening to this is soon to also fall into that category.
I have trouble with the constant talk of men being idiots. In the section about reading instructions I found myself getting annoyed at how the writer generalised all men to be incompetent. Whilst I know this is not the case in all men, I do have it admit I do know a few men who ARE the ways described in this book.
I got this book to find out more about to expect and I have finished it with way more information than I started with so all in all I would say it was ok for me.

Not bad
A fairly obvious and limited account of pregnancy. The story was far better read in a voice your imagination makes up rather than the chosen narrator who is obviously too old to be saying some of the terminology or catch phrases. He’s like listening to a cross between postman pat & a bbc news reader.

loved it but I felt it was a little bit too vague
I listened to it before giving my partner after listening to a few books not designed for men .I like the wit ,I do but I feel to give my husband an in depth step about what to expect and be on same page this wouldn't be it . If your looking for overview perfect but personally it doesn't really say enough and can sometimes make birth sound very scary and off-putting. Also and this is most books I'm sad it doesn't talk about IVF more not just the joys of natural conception just to be a bit more inclusive . Not everyone gets that surprise moment and I think allowing those after IVF talk about there ten day wait would be nice touch . also not everyone pays for IVF as NHS do offer it to some people under different circumstances . Also there is donor IVF and IVF which are different. Maybe some sensitivity towards thoughts who may only share partial or no genetics to their child.

Really good
I found this to be really insightful. I had it purchased for me by a friend when my partner and I found out we were expecting, but wanted to listen to it via audiobook. I wasn't disappointed. Some of it is common sense, but it's also nice to sit with a notepad and pen when listening to jot down various things that might not have been thought of. I would recommend it to (from my point of view) soon-to-be-dads and upon completion soon-to-be-mums as well. It's fantastically balanced and takes nothing away from either party when delivering the information.

Pregnancy in a Nutshell, and brilliantly funny.
I've read/listened to a few pregnancy books, and this is so far the best. It tells you everything *I think* you need to know, and does so very humorously without getting into needless details many other books go into. Thoroughly recommend for any expecting parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle or whomever might be involved in the process of raising a child.

Great advice, maybe best in physical form
As a new father-to-be, this book was insightful and had great advice, however driving in the car means that it is almost completely forgotten about when it actually matters. Also, the jokes don't quite land as I imagine they might on paper.
Overall, a good book but my advice would be to buy the physical copy.

Rather negative view of pregnancy and birth - didn’t finish
I was looking forward to listening to this with my partner, as we are expecting our first baby. We are both reasonably naive and have much to learn but I can take for granted knowledge so wanted something for him.
However the person doing the reading has a really dull voice.
Although it tries to be light hearted, most of the time it isn’t that funny.
It is entry level which is good.
But generally it is quite out dated in its view point and just generally negative about pregnancy and especially labour and birth. I am glad it wasn’t the first audio book I had listened too as it would have made me not look forward to it all to come. But sadly can’t say the same for my partner, fortunately he isn’t a worrier and is quite relaxed about it all.
Don’t feel we got much from it.

Better alternatives available
I downloaded this audio book with optimism because of reviews that I had read. I found it very difficult to follow and it basically just told me everything I already knew about pregnancy. I wouldn’t recommend it to any dads to be as there is far better alternatives out there.
