After reaching St. Joseph, she bought her oxen, schooner, supplies, and waited in line, only to be told as a lone woman traveling west, she was not allowed on the wagon train.
The Hardy brothers Blake and Shane were heading to Oregon with their herd of cattle and could use a schooner, oxen, and a place for their supplies. Standing in line, Blake overheard the conversation between the wagon master Frazer and Miss Catherine, and Blake quickly came up with a scheme to wed little brother Shane to the woman filling all their needs.
With only 15 minutes granted to them, Blake quickly talked Cat and his little brother into a hasty marriage.
