Touching, Uplifting and Inspiring
This is a moving story by Tracie Peterson, an author who manages to tackle issues of faith and trust in God without sugar sweet or corniness. Her characters are both relate-able and flawed. Additionally, I enjoyed the historical setting of the both the Civil War and the our country's difficult times with American Indians.

Too much like a devotional and not a Christian ROMANCE
I read a lot of Christian Romances and this was my first and probably last by this author. The story was more about quoting the Bible and discussing God,which is great for a devotional. I really felt the relationship between the two main characters was lacking. I didn't want her with the antagonist, but could have cared less if she ended up with William. I just felt she was so focused on discussing God that she forgot to build the romantic tension between the two main characters. It was frustrating. I finished it because I hate to leave a story untold, but I didn't feel I would've been upset if I didn't. I guess I prefer the Christian romances that sprinkle God's influence and love through the characters' actions, their situations, and sometimes even their prayers about their lives. Just not every other line of preaching and preaching. Not my style! I lost focus on the ROMANCE !!!

Texas during the Civil War
My first book about Texas and the Civil War . . . and this is a great one . . . Hannah and her young brother and sister are living on a ranch that has been seized by the government from its owner, William Barnett, because he and his family sided and fought for the union . . . Texas . . . interestingly enough, succeeded from the union in 1861 and replaced Governor Sam Houston, when he would not take an oath of allegiance to the Confederate States. Most Texans' sympathies lied with the south, with some joining the fighting and many being instrumental in smuggling horses and supplies to the confederate troops. In the book, and in the Civil War, the Comanche Indians were ran rough shod by the troops. . . a nuance of the war that I hadn't contemplated before . . . the portrayal of the young Indian boy, injured near the ranch, was one of the most illuminating and interesting parts of the book for me . . . and Hannah's brave move to meet the boy's father when he came for his son . . . this story will stretch your heart and your faith in mankind . . . and remind you that evil exists . . . with childlike faith, Hannah met each obstacle with prayer . . . trusting God to deliver . . . whether it was Mexican servants, Comanche Indians, confederate troops, mean spirited merchants, or one particular union soldier, Hannah found mercy and love to spare . . . and when she got pushed into a corner by the devil's henchman, well, she spit fire . . . and called on Her Deliverer . . . Chasing the Sun is a great listen, full of grace, forgiveness, strength . . . and spunk!

Disappointed
Would you ever listen to anything by Tracie Peterson again?
Yes, I usually enjoy Tracie Peterson's books but this one was a real disappointment, not her usual quality.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Renee Raudman?
The voice used for the female character was terrible, very fake.

Best War Between the States in a Long Time
I have not been reading books set in the War Between the States from the modern view of authors unwilling show the reason for the confederacy and true facts of history.
Peterson has written a well-rounded book in this the third in the series. I think everyone should start with this book. If’s the best. The characters are delightful and only a few Historical facts are wrong. The plot is good and only the villain is overdone.
Most of today’s novels write of that war as totally about slavery . They hold a POV either of the entire North (who all supposedly never owned slaves and where each and every person wants to free slaves ) or from the South where each person is an evil slave owner except one. Peterson writes people caught in the middle with questions and regrets. Granted it is in Texas, and Texas had only been a State for a short time. But she shows the heart of each person toward the war, slavery and the Native Americans. Her main mistakes was in saying the Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves. Secretary of State Seward’s own words say no slaves were freed by that document. Of the slaves in 6 union controlled states were not freed and only the states they had no control over were freed.
Peterson’s point is that of healing and the futility of that horrible war. She creates a wonderful story and slices in God’s redemption .
Raudman did an exceptional narration.
