Summary
The first book of the smash-hit Wayward Pines trilogy, from the New York Times bestselling author of Dark Matter, Recursion, and Upgrade.
Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in Wayward Pines, Idaho, with a mission: locate two federal agents who went missing in the bucolic town one month earlier. But within minutes of his arrival, Ethan is involved in a violent accident. He comes to in a hospital, with no ID, no cell phone, and no briefcase.
As the days pass, Ethan’s investigation turns up more questions than answers: Why can’t he get any phone calls through to his wife and son in the outside world? Why doesn’t anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what is the purpose of the electrified fences surrounding the town? Are they meant to keep the residents in? Or something else out?
Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan farther from the world he knew, from the man he was, until he must face a horrifying fact – he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.
The nail-bitingly suspenseful opening installment in Blake Crouch’s blockbuster Wayward Pines trilogy, Pines is at once a brilliant mystery tale and the first step into a genre-bending saga of suspense, science fiction, and horror.

I didn’t enjoy this book at all.
I found it slow and cliched. I’m not sure why it has such good reviews but I was clearly reading a different book!
I finished it just in case the ending somehow rescued the book… it didn’t.

Unexpected Ending
This is an entertaining book until the ending, when it gets even more interesting! Some parts are kind of slow, but the ending made it worthwhile for me. Definitely going to get the next book!

No idea it would turn out like that.
I was able to get so engrossed in this book, just like his first (Dark Matter). The character development, the twists and the bomb shells all make this author a ‘one of a kind’. It’s a believable dystopian theme which leaves the reader to generate their own theories and ideas of why and how. This makes me want to start writing myself

Brilliant.
I have finished listening to all three of the books. First off the narrator was just wonderful. Changed voices for different people and it worked seamlessly.
The entire story was very well put together. There were no real lows and slow parts ( in my opinion ). And kept me guessing to the end. Just a wonderful set of books to listen to. Just like all
The other Blake Crouch books.

Great Story
Fantastic book with a great story. Loved the tv show so am now working my way through the books. Think they could do with a better narrator though. Don’t know what it is about him I just find him quite cringy.

Uuum okay....
After reading 2 books by Blake Crouch I can say this - it aeems he really likes exploring the f up side of humanity AND he writes pageturners.
Overall the story isn't bad, it is gripping and I know I have to disociate from the protagonist or I will come out of the book very very disturbed and doubting my reality.
On the other side, yhe story is kind of just...meh. There are some cringy moments and some that just don't make sense.
Overall, it is an ok 8 hours. I don't know if I will be picking up the next books in the series.
