Summary

"Amazing! One of the twistiest time-tales I've ever read..."—Diana Gabaldon

"Crichtonesque thrillers don't come much better than this intricate outing which combines a fantastic premise... with a closed-circle whodunit. Readers won't be able to turn the pages fast enough."—Publishers Weekly—Starred Review

From the worldwide bestselling author of The Extinction Trials, Departure, and The Atlantis Gene comes a new kind of sci-fi thriller: a time-travel murder mystery with a twist you'll never see coming.

Control the Past. Save the Future.

Dr. Sam Anderson is one of the most celebrated scientists in history. Ten years ago, he invented a device that changed the world forever. Now his life is about to be ripped apart—and his own creation may be to blame.

One fateful morning, Sam discovers that his girlfriend has been murdered and that his daughter is accused of the crime.

Sam believes she's innocent, but he can't prove it. There's only one thing he can do to save his daughter: confess to the crime. And so he does.

But in the future, murderers aren't sent to prison. They're sent to the past.

Thanks to Sam's invention–Absolom–the world's worst criminals are exiled forever, sent back to the time of the dinosaurs, where they live out their lives alone.

As Sam steps into the Absolom chamber to leave for the Late Triassic, he makes a promise: he will get back to his family, clear his name, and find the person who killed the woman he loved.

What Sam doesn't know is that there's a secret waiting for him in the past. And it might be his only hope of saving himself and his family.

Sam isn't the only one seeking justice. In the present, his daughter, Adeline, also embarks on a mission to find the person who framed her and tore her family apart. She's already lost her mother. She can't bear losing her father too.

As Adeline peels back the layers of the conspiracy against her family, she uncovers more questions than answers. Everyone around her is hiding a secret, including her legal guardian. And some people aren't what they seem.

Adeline soon finds herself in the midst of a mystery that stretches across the past, present, and future—and leads to a revelation that will change everything.

Lost in Time is more than a murder mystery about advanced technology and time travel. It's a heartwarming story about family and the lengths we might go to in order to save the ones we love—with a twist that will have you questioning everything you thought you knew since the first moment.

Time travel - Eventually

A couple of times, the line “with enough time” stood out. Because, with enough time, the story had time travel. Main story plot twist I predicted, I think that’s because I read/listen a lot of books so kinda just expected it. Overall a good story, just could have gotten there sooner and have room left over for other things.

Enjoyable

I found this a decent book despite some harsh reviews. Solid narration, dialogue and plot although a little slow at times.
Hard to comment on specifics without spoilers but I wonder what would have happened had they just done nothing.

Time not lost

Listening to Lost in Time was far from time lost! The story unfolded in a steady way, not jumping around too fast but with enough twists and developments to keep interest and wonder. The characters had sufficient depth and differences to maintain the way the plot was worked and the narration was not hurried. All in all I'd recommend this title to anyone with an interest in mystery stories, even if it would be classed as science fiction. A++

Meandering…

I love a time travel novel, it’s one of my favourite genres.
This novel just doesn’t scratch my time travel itch, it limps along, the characters seem one dimensional, flat and lifeless. I felt no empathy towards any of them.
The time travel element is quite bland, and only in the final act does it start to turn into the story I would be interested in hearing, but then it’s over.
I’m not convinced any of the characters, or the author, had any idea what they had invented, it just seemed to be… “here, we made this, probably by accident, but we’re real clever… honest”
The murder mystery, I’m not sure it was, I just kinda nodded when the reveal happened.. yep, that’s that bit done then.
The narrator seemed a little to monotone for me, no real character work, read well, but it’s not really acted.
Based on the reviews, I seem to be in the minority, so hopefully you will enjoy more than I have.

Complicated but very enjoyable.

It felt like a long lead in to the time travel part. When it came you have to stay on your toes to keep up. I advise you don't second guess or like me you'll have to replay to straighten the story out again...

Just... WOW!

I could not put this (audio)book away; it held me enraptured for the entire book, with several amazing twists that I did not see coming at all (and I can usually spot plot twists quite easily)!

The story itself was genuinely fantastic, and the audiobook's vocal performance was wonderful; I always enjoy listening to John Shelley's voice.

This audiobook is highly recommended if time-travel/sci-fi/mystery is your thing! And even if it's not, give it a try...you might find that Absolom has predetermined it 😉 I'll definitely be reading this again multiple times in the future, that's for sure.
