Summary
The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn French. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding French in no time flat!
With this newest edition of French 1, we reflect the general trend in France toward casual interaction and have updated vocabulary and structures. What you are learning is neither stilted “textbook” French, nor “street” French, but rather everyday French as spoken in France.
This course includes Lesson 1-5 from the French Level 1 program featuring 2.5 hours of language instruction. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak French.
Reading Lessons begin in Lesson 2 and provide you with an introduction to reading French. A Reading Booklet and a User's Guide are included with your download.
The French Language
French is spoken by 55 million speakers in France, 3 million in Belgium, 1.5 million in Switzerland, 6.5 million in Canada, and 5 million in former French and Belgian colonies. It is an official language in 44 countries and an official language of the United Nations. An estimated 50 million people around the world speak French as a second language.

Very good course
Very good, but as the conversations are at the speed that French people speak naturally, it might be a bit challenging for absolute beginners.

Not for visual learners
There is a warning in the introduction that the Pimsleur method is based on learning as a child would learn, by listening and repeating. Heed it! There are no visual clues. In many cases it’s impossible to distinguish the sounds “pa”, “ba” and “va”. It’s very frustrating when you are trying to repeat and have no idea if what you are saying is correct. Also, there is very little time between the questions and the program saying the answers, so while I am forming and starting to say the response, the program starts the response that I am then unable to hear. I find myself backing up frequently, not responding so that I can hear the correct response and using another source to determine if the sound begins with a P, a V, or a B.
The vocabulary in the accompanying workbook has no relation to the words and phrases in the audio lessons to which they are supposed to be related.
It would be very helpful to have a workbook that has a list of vocabulary words and phrases that corresponds to those used in the audio lesson. This would also help greatly to distinguish the P, B and V sounds

Excellent Examples but Short on Content
The method of memorizing in this course is effective if a little repetitive. I wish I could have learned a few more phrases for my Audible token. 2-3 Lessons a token seems a better price.

Very easy to follow
I really easy to follow. Works on memory recall. I listened to the audio in my car on my way to work. I repeated som of the lessons 2-3Xs when working on my pronounciation. I can say I really like it. The only thing I would like (which is against the method used) is a transcript of the words or phrases. I am very much a visual learner so I would like yo see how these words or phrases are written.

Great
Best language program in my opinion. Get you to focus on speaking instead of learning spelling or conjugation
