Summary

He had never heard himself scream before. It was terrifying.

Alone, trapped in the darkness and with no way out, Bart Campbell knows that his chances of being found alive are slim.

Drugged and kidnapped from his Edinburgh home, the realisation soon dawns that he’s been locked inside a shipping container - but what Bart doesn’t know is that he’s now heading for France, where his unspeakable fate is already sealed....

DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach are working on separate cases that soon collide as it becomes clear that the men and women being shipped to France are being traded for women trafficked into Scotland.

With so many lives at stake, it seems an impossible task - but there’s no option of failure when Bart and so many others will soon be dead....

The next gripping thriller from the best-selling crime author Helen Fields.

The perfect read for fans of M. J. Arlidge and Karin Slaughter.

Critic reviews

"Perfect Kill is a compelling breathless read. Unflinching, brave and so well researched and considered." (Essie Fox)

"Utterly compelling, as ever, and dizzyingly twisted, with characters so real they could step off the page." (BP Walter)

Perfect read

Cannot get enough of this series. Already wanting the next one. Speech of some individual French male characters was difficult to differentiate sometimes but overall Robin Laing rose brilliantly to the challenge of a large cast of characters - creating a discernibly different and memorable voices. Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

Superb

For the first hour or so I suffered a small amount of déjà vu, the story seemed so generic that I was certain I'd heard it before, however, around the 90 minute mark, it started to grow into a great behemoth of a tale, pure thrills all the way through with Robin Laing giving a marvellous performance as usual.

I highly recommend this book to all fans of the series, all newcomers too as it could be read as a standalone, but better to start at book one which is also fabulous.

The characters in this series are like old friends and I enjoy seeing them develop. The writing is sublime as is the Story telling. Just can’t wait for the next offering.

Another good one. Sad there isn’t another to look forward to. Disappointed that they still didn’t get together!!

sorry to hear this is the last in the series!

I have become so involved with the characters and the topics in the story are very relevant in today's world of human trafficking etc. could not stop listening.

What a wonderful series - just get the lot!

I started with Perfect Remains, the first of Helen Fields magnificent series, all narrated by the equally magnificent Robin Laing and have just finished the sixth (this one). In all honesty, I have been enthralled by every one of them and could hug Helen Fields for providing me with so much listening pleasure. How Robin manages to switch to a commendable French accent for our hero detective Luc, realistic female narrative for our heroine detective Ava and convey such realism into his delivery that I might just as well be listening to a full cast. Praise indeed, but he fully deserves it. Please Helen, ensure that he reads every one of your fabulous novels. As for the stories, I do not intend to spoil any of them. Read the blurb, download and give your imagination free rein. I will only add that every character in these novels is clearly defined, warts and all and utterly believable. That is essential for a series as long as this one and I can only hope that Ms Fields will not abandon them. Right now, I am bereft and have no idea what to read next. It had better be magnificent as I consider myself well and truly spoiled for any other author in my considerable library.
