Summary

Why does a wealthy Scottish financier set up a drugs deal with the IRA? Jeopardise his career, endanger his family and lover by tangling with the East End underworld and a ruthless mercenary? The motive is simple: revenge for a cold-blooded act of murder. His adversary is a dangerous gangland boss whose connections stretch from the Highlands to London and beyond. More than a match for a newcomer, especially when his plans contain a fatal flaw, which will be discovered only when it is much too late…

an interesting little tale

this was the first book Stephen Leather wrote (way back in 1987!). Since then, he has grown to become, in my view, one of the best thriller writers currently writing. It is interesting to read his first ever book and to see how the author has developed his style over subsequent books. even at this early stage in his career, Leather demonstrates his ability to present the reader with well-drawn and likeable charictors. While this tale of revenge set in London and Scotland doesn't have the tight plotting that we'd come to expect from his current work it is still a fun little tale.

Different style.

Different style to his usual work, but reasonable, and worth listening to. Gave it 4 stars as I prefer his usual style.

Good story, poor reading

This is an exciting story with plenty of thrills which moves at a great pace. However I deducted a star because of the choice of reader. The bulk of the story is told by the 'hero' who, we are told, is an educated Scottish financier. So why does he sound like an Essex boy with a complete inability to pronounce the Scottish words and place names? Given the right story this reader would be fine but this was the wrong book for him.
