Pain in the Axe is book two in the Maine Lumberjacks series. Gus is the oldest Hebert brother. Gus got married young to the love of his life, Chloe. Gus and Chloe’s fathers did not want them together. They devised a plan to split them up. Gus got married and divorced before his brothers ever knew. Chloe’s father never thought a woman could run a lumber company. She proved him wrong by buying her family company and several other’s including her ex husband’s family lumber company. Gus has never stopped loving Chloe. He was attracted to her when she was twenty, but now that she is fourty, she is a knockout. I loved this book so much. I want me a grumpy lumberjack. Can’t wait for the other brothers books.

CJ Bloom and Aaron Shedlock did an incredible job narrating this book.

Gus and Chloe are wonderful! I'm not usually one for Second chance romance but I love these Heberts. A story of revenge turned justice for a past romance lost. Not only was this a great story with fulfilling revelations, the narration was great and made the experience smooth and engaging. I love that even though it came unexpectedly later in life, these two finally found their HEA together.

This was a cute second chance romance. I loved that we have an older couple as main characters and that she is the boss in their workplace relationship. Chloe was such a fierce FMC but she held on to this vendetta for a long time. Still loving this family and the environment

The audio was very well done. CJ Bloom was the perfect choice for our sassy FMC. She brings so much personality to this character. On the flip side, Aaron Shedlock’s tone works so well for a large lumberjack character. Highly recommend this one on audio!!

this one had me hooked from the start because you could feel their chemistry through the page. i loved watching them slowly let their walls down again was such a satisfying ride. the accidental pregnancy wasn’t the main plot point which surprised me and it definitely was like nothing i have ever read before. gus was seriously such a softie and the way he showed up for her had me smiling so much.

the audiobook was really well done and made the characters feel even more real. i loved how the narrators captured the emotion and humor, it added a lot.

This is the second book in the Maine Lumberjacks series — a small-town second chance romance with plenty of heart and humor. Gus and Chloe’s enemies-to-lovers romance is sweet, passionate, fun, and deeply entertaining. Both characters are grumpy and stubborn — which makes for a refreshing dynamic and lots of sparks! I loved Gus’s determination and the emotional push and pull between them. Their journey is filled with miscommunication, tension, witty banter, and just the right amount of humor. A touch of suspense adds another engaging layer to the plot. The supporting cast is strong, and I especially enjoyed the sense of family throughout the story. Aaron Shedlock and CJ Bloom did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life with energy and heart. I really enjoyed this audiobook and can’t wait to listen to Axe-identally Married, the next in the series.

Take me to Maine. Moose and all, I love to hear about these lumberjacks. I was looking forward to Gus's story after meeting him in the first book, and Daphne Elliott does not disappoint! Chloe has been working hard since her divorce. And now it's time to seek her revenge. Buying her ex-husband Gus's lumber company should be the best feeling, but it's not giving her all she was looking for. Now working with him daily, dealing with him getting her coffee in the morning and his great attitude and good looks is driving her crazy. Gus thought this was going to be the end of him. But seeing Chloe just enforces his feeling of knowing she was the one and he isn't letting her get away again! With a touch of suspense, a man with a heart of gold and a woman who knows it, this book has it all. It's funny, it's sweet, it's spicy and I can't forget the fun of the family. I am loving this series and can't wait for the next one!

CJ Bloom and Aaron Shedlock bring this gem to life. Bloom is Chloe, tough businesswoman who is a hot mess in private. I loved her take on Chloe as she lets her brains show but not afraid to let her crazy out. Shedlock is Gus, the man with the teddy bear heart. He creates a man who takes on his role as the oldest seriously, but also knows when it's time to put his own happiness first. I loved the way these two find the essence of these two and made a phenomenal listen.

I listened to the audiobook with duet narration by Aaron Shedlock and CJ Bloom. Both narrators did a fantastic job bringing the story to life and I’m sure that I enjoyed the story more because I listened to it.

This was my first book by Daphne Elliott. It’s book two of the Maine Lumberjacks series and it can be read as a stand alone. I did wonder if this series was a spin off from another series, but there didn’t seem to be anything missing for Gus and Chloe’s story.

I received a copy of the book at my request and the opinions here are my own.

I dunno if buying out your ex husband’s company (the very one y’all divorced over years ago) is a power move? 🤔 yep! I think it is!

Pain in the Axe is book 2 in the Maine Lumberjacks series. It’s about Chloe and Gus who were previously married. Due to some stuff with Gus seemingly only caring about his company (a.k.a. not spending much time with his wife) and some other miscommunication stuff, their marriage doesn’t work out. Years later, Chloe has worked and girlbossed her way up to having a lot of capital, and she buys and runs companies for a living. She comes across Gus’s company which is now in financial ruin due to some stuff revealed in previous books. She takes this as an opportunity to get revenge on Gus. After all, how better to really stick it to him than for his ex wife to buy out his company and become his boss?🤷‍♀️

I really enjoyed this book! Gus and Chloe had a really fun dynamic. I enjoyed their back-and-forth banter. And I’m really enjoying being in this Maine Lumberjacks series world. The author does a great job with combining romance, chemistry, and spice with some underlying suspense. I also love how the suspense is woven in throughout the entire series. Do be aware that this has a surprise pregnancy plot line in the as well. I also enjoyed that aspect. Overall, I enjoyed my reading experience and I would recommend this if you love second chance romantic suspense between exes (plus I liked seeing over 40s characters get a HEA)! 😊

Narrated by Aaron Shedlock and CJ Bloom, they were fantastic. Their performances were beautifully executed and the story was brought to life!
