Summary

Orson Reid: college freshman, gamer, and quite possibly the legendary boogeyman of the magical world. And you thought your life was weird.

It all started the night Orson kissed his best friend, Elyse, and she kissed him back. Yes, the kiss was life-changing, but in ways Orson never could have imagined. It seems he contracted a "virus" that is making him taller, faster, and stronger. But his life doesn't go completely off the rails until the night Elyse shows up at his house, strips out of her clothes, and shape-shifts into a giant cat - a panther, to be exact.

Now, instead of preparing for his freshman year of college, Orson is tossed head first into a world where shape-shifters, magic, and monsters are real. A world ruled by the secretive Paragon Society, a group that enforces magical law with brutal efficiency.

And if all that wasn't enough for one guy to deal with, Orson may just be the Ollphiest, the legendary monster that even monsters fear.

Reviews

Who ever gave this book a good review must of been reading another book, most of the books I read are far fetched but this goes even beyond my abilities to rationalise it

it had potential, but fell short.

the beginning felt great, middle was doing good and the everything close to the ending just made it meh. narrator did a great job to keep me listening but the material didnt wasnt good enough to want me to continue.

Not a lot of story for the length of the book

I consider this an average specimen, possibly more for YA audiences. Doesn't feel like I got much of anything for the length of the book. Not much focus on story, world building, character development etc.

left me somewhat underwhelmed and feeling as if I read a book half the length. About middling overall.

the Main Character becomes suddenly incredibly strong and it almost feels like I skipped a book somewhere in the middle. the power up feels unearned, unclimactic and undeserved.

Lazy tropes wooden delivery

Hard to finish, just played it out to get it done. Thought it would be an interesting concept but the delivery is wooden due to a failure to emote. Novel goes nowhere fast, when things finally start moving forward nothing significant happens and it just feels like a set up for the sequel rather than resolving anything else.

Perfect!

That was brilliant! Just what I needed after a disasterous book. Fast paced and gripping.

Free! Are you mad? I’d have paid for every book.

The whole series is fantastic, my new favourite. Narration was perfect, as was the writing. They just come together Perfectly. I usually listen to the freebies whilst doing monotonous chores (let’s face it freebies are usually as poorly written as 50 shades) this book was wonderful as was all of them. Only the second author out of 500+ titles that has made me sit and do nothing but LISTEN to the whole narrative (2nd being Charlie holmberg star mother series).
So thank you David for some amazing books.. please write some more.. very soon! Although my buttocks and cheap dfs couch will not thank you for the stagnant listening!!!!

Teenage boy lives out fantasy of becoming a supernatural.

I enjoy some YA books but this one is definitely aimed at the younger end of the audience. The male narrator sounds too old for the main character he’s portraying. I’m not half way through the book yet. I might finish it but have no enthusiasm to. It’s alright if you’re between 12 and 16 I suppose.

An everyday story of high school teen were beasts

Aimed at a teen audience who don't do much reading. Could have been so much better.

Make a great movie

The story is great and easy to see that it will resonate with all ages.
Hope there’s more!
