About this listen

Two decades after the Civil War, first-generation Irish-American Zachary O'Hara, son of a legendary Marine and a force of a man in his own right, finds himself playing a critical role as the very existence of the Marine Corps is being decided. If he can help persuade the Secretary of the Navy that the Marines will be crucial to America's security in years to come, all the while hefting a heavy, secret weight in his heart, he'll save the Corps and make his career.

But there's an obstacle in his path that this warrior hadn't planned on. Amanda Blanton Kerr, the daughter of a ruthless industrialist, is on a mission of her own; passionate, obstinate, and whip-smart, she's an heiress poised to blaze a trail for all women.

O'Hara's Choice is the story of the inevitable collision of these two handsome, fighting spirits, in which getting their souls' desires could jeopardize everything they, and their parents before them, scraped and struggled to achieve.

Excellent Storytelling

I read, the old fashioned way, one of Leon Uris' books, many years ago. Since then nothing really caught my interest. I was looking for a book that would keep me entertained - I listen to books on my way to and from work. There was just something about the blurb for this book that intrigued me enough to want to give it a try. I am really glad that I did.

A book about the early years of the US Marine Corps would not normally excite me, but the combination of a good story, well written and a satisfying rendition of the story has made me glad that I took this title.

I don't claim that anyone else will like it, but I have enjoyed it immensely. Thank you, Audible, you have rekindled my interest in Leon Uris, I will have to try some more of his books. Just a pity that you don't seem to have any other of his books. Ah well.

Just not my cup of tea!!

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

It didn't lift me at all. It took me ages to find anything worth caring about in the book. In the end I let it go.

What will your next listen be?

Tom Wood's third book on Victor the Assassin. Totally brilliant books and well presented. Narrator also helps these books.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

N/a

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not that I can think of and I usually enjoyed Leon Uris when I was younger.
