About this listen
Final Fantasy is one of the most iconic and beloved video game series in the world. Since its inception, its titles have adopted names, themes, and stories from across global mythology, including the beliefs of the Vikings. This book embarks on a detailed exploration of how Norse lore in particular influenced the writing and design of Final Fantasy VII - arguably the most critically acclaimed of the franchise - and its wider Compilation.
Why is Midgar the political center of the planet, and Nibelheim the home of Cloud Strife? How are the Odin Materia, the Rune Blade, and Vincent Valentine connected? What are the parallels between Ragnarök and the fall of the Shinra Corporation? These questions and many more will be examined and answered by award-winning community author M.J. Gallagher. Suitable for newcomers and enthusiasts alike.
Audiobook read by Liam Mulvey. This work is presented as a tribute to the metaseries Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. The author proposes that the speculative comparisons between Norse mythology and the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII are unique, and uses original thinking and analysis to interpret the inspirations, context, and content of the metaseries. The book has not been approved, licensed, or sponsored by any entity or person involved in creating or producing Final Fantasy video games, films, or publications.

More than just a game.
While also being very informative, the book was just good fun. I had no idea of the scale of lore in these games, so it was great getting to know more about the inspiration of the game, but also a deeper dive into the characters.
The love the author has for the FF world really shines through. Off to pick up the next book about the Greek mythology, so keen to learn more from MG!

Just so interesting!
A fascinating take on the world of Final Fantasy 7 saga and the many links it appears to have to Norse God's and mythology. The book puts forward a strong case on many fronts and was a joy to explore. If you love the Final Fantasy game series, it's a great book to read.

Loved it!!
I’m a huge fan of Final Fantasy 7 so this was a must!
I wasn’t disappointed it explored and explained lots of stories linking the game with Norse some I knew and many I did not,
I highly recommend this book for anyone with even a passing interest in Final Fantasy 7.
