Summary
New York Times best-selling author Brenda Novak welcomes you to Silver Springs, a picturesque small town in Southern California where even the hardest hearts can learn to love again....
Struggling to make ends meet after a messy divorce, Sadie Harris is at the end of her tether. Her waitressing gig isn't enough to pay the bills, let alone secure primary custody of her son, Jayden, a battle she refuses to lose. Desperate, she accepts a position assisting Dawson Reed - the same Dawson Reed who recently stood trial for the murder of his adoptive parents. Joining him at his isolated farm seems risky, but Sadie is out of options.
Dawson has given small town Silver Springs plenty of reasons to be wary, but he's innocent of the charges against him. He wants to leave his painful past behind and fix up the family farm so he can finally bring his dependent sister home where she belongs.
As Sadie and Dawson's professional relationship grows into something undeniably personal, Sadie realizes there's more to Dawson than the bad boy everyone else sees - he has a good heart, one that might even be worth fighting for.

Story had a helpless victim feel.
Sadie filed for divorce and left her husband Sly who is a vicious mean bully cop. Other cops believe Sly, not Sadie. Sly sabotages Sadie's job attempts because he wants her back and dependent on him. She gets a job working for Dawson on his farm. Dawson was accused of killing his parents but acquitted. The locals and cops still believe he is guilty. Sly wants to do bad things and frame Dawson. Throughout the story I felt helpless and worried. I prefer books where the hero or heroine do smart or interesting things, not just worry about surviving the bad guy.
CAUTION SPOILER:
Even at the end, characters other than the hero/heroine did things to solve problems.
END SPOILER.
I’m reminded of Rose Madder by Stephen King - a similar story about a woman who runs away from her abusive cop husband. He was worse than Sly. But I enjoyed watching what Rose and others did. It was entertaining.
This book is romantic suspense so there is a happy ending for the good guys.
AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Veronica Worthington was ok, but at times she read like she was in a hurry. Her voice is ok but almost has a harsh feeling. I prefer a slightly softer voice.

The story was great
While I enjoyed the story, I wish that the narration had done a better job with the voice difference between characters. At times it was hard to know how was talking as they all sounded the same.

Awesome book!
I honestly enjoyed this one. The sex was there but not so much to make you sick. I hated what Sly was doing to Sadie and Dawson but it made a great story. Just enough intrigue to keep me interested. I will be reading more in this series!

A great Listen
I loved this story. I loved the suspense, The narrator did a great job. I wanted to know what happened next so it was hard to stop it for anything. I love how the author made it to where how someone saw one character wasn't who or how that character really was. I loved Sadie and Dawson. They area great characters. I loved Sadies son as well he was a cutie! If you love a great romance with suspense you will love this one!

Redemption
I just discovered Novak and I was not half way through before I began looking for more good reads. This book reminds me of how easily we can allow our spirits to be crushed by circumstances and by people who claim to love us. But how glorious is it when our hearts are still able to be open to love others and allow them to love us. Looking forward to gathering more for my library.
