About this listen
Read by the author, Tyler James.
Written with a searing honesty, My Amy is an evocative portrait of unbreakable lifelong friendship – and a devastating study into fame, addiction and self-sabotage.
Only one person knows what really happened to Amy, other than Amy herself. He is Tyler James, Amy’s best friend from the age of thirteen. They met at stage school as two insecure outsiders, formed an instant connection and lived together from their late teenage years right up until the day she died, aged just twenty-seven.
Tyler was there by her side through it all. From their carefree early years touring together to the creation of the multiple Grammy-winning Back To Black, which she wrote on their kitchen floor. From her volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil through her escalating addictions, self-harm and eating disorders as the toxic nature of fame warped Amy’s reality. For the last three years of her life, Tyler was with her every day when she’d beaten drugs and was close to beating alcoholism too. He also knew better than anyone the real Amy Winehouse who the tabloid-reading public rarely saw – the hilarious, uncompromising force-of-nature busy taking care of everyone else.
We all think we know what happened to Amy Winehouse, but we don’t. This definitive insider’s story tells us all, finally, the truth.

A heartbreaking story of codependancy
This is the saddest book I have ever heard, it was heartbreaking. It couldn't be narrated by anyone but Tyler and you can feel his despair and the times he was clinging on to hope - just. I wish Tyler had followed his own star earlier on instead of sacrificing his best years - although he won't see it that way. An excellent book deserving of all the praise.

Wow
What a truly remarkable book.
A love story, a story of true friendship and a revelation to me about addiction.
What a man and friend Tyler
is. What an incredible human Amy was.
Thank you for writing this. It moved me to feel things I’ve buried myself for years & I cannot begin to imagine how it must’ve been for the author.

This is Raw
This was a harrowing read. Very sad. In parts I found it so disrespectful the way they treated people. Places etc do badly but it was the drugs. It was just car crash but it was drugs and drink. I am glad Tyler has survived to tell the story. He really loved Amy and he will be there to tell who she really was. A must read. So sad as she was amazing but she was always going to die young. I am amazed he kept her alive so long xx

Heartfelt
A true and raw insight into the life of Amy, told so proudly by her best friend. A lovely tribute to her and just simply heartbreaking.
Highly recommended.

I laughed and cried
Being a proper East Ender myself (Stepney), I could tell that Tyler spoke from his heart and I totally believed every word.
I could sense at times that he held back when commenting about Amy’s family, and I also sensed what a nervous and insecure soul he his.
My daughter is called Amy and I call her Aim, so it really resonated with me when he’d quote conversations they had with him calling her Aim.
I was dreading it getting to the chapter when when Amy passed over. The emotion in Tyler’s voice was heartbreaking and I sobbed.
Thanks Tyler and team, this book is amazing. Oddly enough, I knew in my heart that there wasn’t a nasty side to Amy, so, I’m glad you made that clear.
Ps. Tyler… you really should get into acting, I could listen to you all day.

Hilarious, tragic and always honest
Never felt so affected by an audiobook before. You made me feel like i was right there with the two of you, in the good times and bad. You humanised and celebrated your best friend in this book and I can only say thank you, Tyler for loving Amy when everyone else had practically given up. Congratulations on 13 years of sobriety (I've just hit 10 months myself). What a brilliant listen that was.
