Summary

The outrageously candid memoir from club culture's most beloved—and notorious—DJ, Fat Tony.

As one of club culture's most notorious—and best loved—figures, Tony is a complete force of nature.

Here he tells the most extraordinary stories of depravity and hedonism, of week-long benders and extreme self-destruction—and of recovery, redemption, friendship and the joy of a good tune.

DJ Fat Tony has been described as 'the closest thing that club culture has to a national treasure' and the 'unlikely cult hero of quarantine'. Few people have crammed so many lives into one: when your first line of cocaine is aged 16 with Freddie Mercury, where do you go from there?

I Don't Take Requests is Fat Tony's breathtakingly candid and outrageous memoir of a life of extremes. From his childhood on an estate in Battersea where he honed his petty criminality, was abused by an older man and made friends with Boy George, to his teenage years spent parading the Kings Road in his latest (stolen) clobber, working as a receptionist for a prostitute, hanging out with Leigh Bowery and Sue Tilley and creating his drag persona, to his life as DJ to the stars and his spiral into serious drug addiction.

Now, he is 14 years sober and, alongside working to help others overcome addiction, DJing for everyone from Elton John to Louis Vuitton and the Beckhams—and running one of lockdown's most popular Instagram accounts with its wickedly funny memes.

It is all here in horrifying, glorious, heart-breaking detail.

Critic reviews

"This is a story that should never have been told." (Kate Moss)

"There is nobody in London, let alone the world who has lived a more extraordinary life... his journey from villain to real life hero is one of the most beautiful examples of humanity I have ever witnessed. I wouldn't be without this c--t." (Kelly Osbourne)

"Anyone can get a party started, but no one keeps it going like Fat Tony, the energy never dips and what a life he's lived." (Elton John and David Furnish)

Brutal honesty life lesson

A cautionary tale of what can happen when low self esteem, a massive ego, narcism and too much money collide. A one man mission to hedonism that stretches over decades of abuse and poor life choices and more importantly, proof that people can change and grow, even in the darkness. Well done Tony - a great listen. X

Tenacious Tony

We’ve heard all about troublesome Tony, but the beauty of this book is hearing about the hard work he’s put into himself and others. I suspect this will prove inspiring for many…nice work!

This was the book I was meant to listen to now

There are so many take away a points from this book that I really wasn’t expecting. I thought DJ Fat Tony’s book would be entertaining but possibly one of those celeb books I wouldn’t really give much thought to.

It’s honest, it’s raw and it’s opened up my eyes to a lot of unresolved trauma that I have been carrying that I possibly wouldn’t have recognised before now but please do not think it’s a self help book, it’s witty and it’s real - I’m going to recommend this to some friends who I know will also take away something more from this.

There are not enough superlatives available to describe to how incredibly amazing this book is. Everybody should listen to this, the best audible book I've ever listened too and touched me in so many ways. Thank you Fat Tony!!

Fat Tony’s Memoirs are Mesmerising!

Loved this book it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster journey through Fat Tony’s life. I laughed and cried all at the same time! His tales of London nightlife back in the day and battling his addictions are addictive to listen to and keep you wanting more. A must read/listen especially for any other Generation X’ers out there like me! 👌

Get a fxxxing actor to do your audio book !

What a way to end a book!
I loved this book, and couldn’t stop listening.
Despite moving in some similar circles I had never met Tony, so had no idea what I was in store for.
I was shocked, saddened and laughed out loud but this is not fiction it’s fact. The last two chapters blew me away when you wrapped together so many positive take ways.
As a dyslexic author who also narrated my audio books (but did remember my glasses) I agree get an actor, BUT we would not have heard your honesty and passion so I’m super glad you did it yourself.
THANK YOU for sharing your story with the world.

Brilliant

Absolutely loved this book. Completely and utterly honest. Funny and savage and sometimes a little sad. So glad Tony read it himself and didn’t get an actor. I might listen to it all over again!

Very heartfelt story

This is a highly enjoyable audiobook, I met Tony numerous times in the early 90’s when I worked at Sony. He always seemed. Aloof but not rude. I had no idea what was going on in his life. Well worth a listen 😀

Wonderful wonderful experience!!

Really gutted that I finished this today. Such a captivating story and the performance from tony made it for me.

The way he read it just seemed to really reflect his character and the fast paced feel of the book.

Hilarious moments and touching emotional moments lie side by side. Loved every minute!

Brilliant book

I loved this book. I was unsure whether to get the book or the audio book. So glad I chose the audio book. It is ready by the author, and read so wonderfully. Full of humour, pathos, sadness and most of all hope which is conveyed so beautifully. It completely engrossed me. What a life he has lived. Searingly honest. Came away from listening to this wanting to be friends with him. Completely recommend, although it deals with some very dark subject matter and is incredibly sad in parts it is also hilariously funny and uplifting.
