Heart touching and sincere, important and true.

As a big fan of Whitney Houston I watched the two available streaming documentaries about the life of the iconic singer. Liking both ”Can I be me” but prefering ”Whitney”, I was taken on an emotional journey while becoming more and more sucked in the world of Whit. I have been a fan since I bought a cassette of ”The Bodyguard Soundtrack” in the early nineties, but the sheer power of her voice had yet to blow me away to the extent of which it did when I consumed these two films twice, each one. The documentaries seemed to cover, and bring the closest thing to clarity, almost the entirety of Whitney’s life. The thing that made the strongest impression on me, besides the obvious force of the artist, was the woman in the background with the cool and serious eyes. The well dressed friend that seemed to walk beside Nippy each step of the way. And what the two documentaries lacked, I searched Audible for. And to my profound joy, I found that Robyn Crawford had written a book. And I have never listened to an audiobook with the same hunger to finish as with this one. Robyn took me even closer to the strong,soulful and beautiful voice that was Whitney’s. She made me understand how powerful their friendship was and how destructive and meaningless her addiction was. And as a child of two alcoholics I recognized the pattern all too well, Nippys addiction to various drugs reminding me of my mothers addiction to her drug, alcohol. They shared that same look in their eyes, my mother and Whitney, eyes saying that she would give it all up for another high. One very significant detail was missing from the documentaries and that was the fact that before Whitney accepted Robyns letter of resignation, Robyn had herself, in person, quit her job shortly after the failed recording with George Michael, which Robyn herself straightened out. The films also failed in letting Robyn speak to any meaningful extent on camera, which I found very strange as she seemed to have been one of the most important persons in Whitneys life. I would suggest this is one of the many reasons why Robyns book is so important.
Robyns and Whitneys early relationship came as a surprise to me and I was genuinly happy to understand that they were as close to each other as I heard Robyn speak of in her book. Often, having an open mind on how humans love and can love each other seems to be reserved for intelligent people. Equally moving and heart breaking as the story of the artist, is the authors own losses, to mental illness and terminal disease in her own family. I cried on many occasions during this listen.
I finally got to listen to Robyns own words, and her take, on what happened during the rise and fall of one of the greatest and most heart touching artists of all time. And as many a times at it has been said that Whitney was an angel, it has not been mentioned once that she had one beside her that whole time and the name of that angel was Robyn. And Robyn, I also picked fleas from my cats Stinky and Catzy once, in the same exact manner as you so meticulously describe Whitney did on Misty Blue! Love from Sweden.

Emotional but so beautiful put together!!

This book was truly warming, heartfelt and needed from Robyn.

The story from start to finish took you from high to low with the much needed missing pieces of Whitney’s life. It’s so sad that drug addiction took over Whitney’s life the way it did and not have the true love from her friends and family that she so required.

I would have to say Cece Houston (Whitney’s mother) has a lot to answer for as it’s clear she didn’t get the help and support for Whitney that could have made all the difference, as for the sake of Robyn’s sanity she could only do so much after being pushed out by Cece, Bobby Brown and the family.

I believe Whitney truly loved Robyn but her faith and mothers views got in the way so it was an easier option to be with men, even to her own detriment as highlighted by her marriage to Bobby Brown.

Overall a beautiful recap of Whitney’s life with Robyn, would definitely recommend especially if your a Whitney fan.

All Whitney fans must listen to this

I think every fan knew that there was something terribly wrong towards the end. Robyn delivers the most heart warming, compassionate & honest account of her soul mate Whitney. I do truly believe that if whit was just allowed to be herself and with Robyn she would still be with us today. Thank you Robyn…. Thank you

I love Robyn. I just wish she didn’t always leave Whitney to leave her to lead conversation, and actually ask what the problem was. I just miss Whitney even more than I already did now. God bless her soul. Xx

Whitney ❤️

Having been a huge Whitney Houston fan I was curious about this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it but felt very sad hearing how Whitney’s life changed, Robyn narrates well and I wonder if things had been different with Robyn, would Whitney be still alive today, such a waste of life and talent. It also highlights the pressures of fame and that money can’t buy you happiness! RIP Whitney, your music lives on xx

Didn’t they almost have it all?

This is my first time listening to an audiobook. I’m glad I chose this one. It was perfect.
Robyn’s details were intricate, honest and fair. Heartbreaking towards the end as expected but great memories told on their journey of life.
RIP Whitney. Thank you Robyn.
